Are the model 700 or model 770 good rifles? Mediocre rifles? Is this worth it? How bout those Marlins?

I do not remember ever reading a gun test with a Remington in it that Gun Test liked.

The Model 700 Remington is THE most popular rifle on the market today. It's action is strong, it's reasonably accurate, and comes in a huge variety of calibers, barrel lengths, stock styles, and the whole list over again also comes in stainless steel. When it came time for my son to get his first adult hunting rifle, he got a a Remington 700 in .270 Win.

Even so, I prefer military autoloaders. Just a minor character fault of mine.

Thanks for the input guys. Much appreciated.

I've shot Rem. 700's for almost 40 years and feel that they are accurate dependable and fairly priced. The current models don't seem to have as much care in the detail as earlier ones. Bullsear

ref: last comment, what else is new! Overpriced crapola. Thats what you get when you buy american guns...nuff said.
