If someone were to ask you which products Colt has sold over the years, would you say a .22 semiautomatic rifle? I didn’t think you would. Colt made three versions of .22 rifles, the Courier, Colteer and Stagecoach, as well as others under several private-label names for Sears, Wards and other companies. This alloy rifle shot well, but did not hold up well. Unless it was kept oiled and clean, the alloy parts wore very rapidly. In spite of this, the little Colt rifles were good enough lightweight shooters that most owners will pay to get them fixed rather than discard theirs.

Introduced in 1963, the Remington Model 1100 shotgun has been around for over 40 years now. Variations include a sporter for field shooting, a Magnum version for ducks and geese, as well as a skeet and trap model for those who enjoy breaking clay targets. Ruger Issues Product Safety Warning and Recall Notice of SR9 Pistol

April 9, 2008—Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. has recalled Ruger SR9 pistols manufactured between October 2007 and April 2008.

Problem: Under certain conditions, the pistols can fire if dropped with their manual safeties in the "off" or "fire" position and a round in the chamber. The pistols will not fire if the manual safety is in the "on" or "safe" position.

In its recall statement, the company said, “As a responsible manufacturer, we want to make our customers aware of this safety concern as soon as possible. Ruger is finalizing the design of a new trigger group which prevents firing when dropped and will retrofit at no charge all Ruger SR9 pistols with serial number prefix "330" (330-xxxxx).

When Ruger is ready to retrofit a consumer's pistol, Ruger will send a shipping box, label and instructions for the free return of the SR9 pistol to the company’s factory in Prescott, Arizona.

The company said work will be completed promptly at no charge to the consumer and the pistol will be returned at Ruger’s expense. All owners will receive a free SR9 magazine as a thank-you from the company.

All owners of Ruger SR9 pistols are urged not to use their pistol until it has been retrofitted with these new factory parts. If owners must use their SR9 pistol, the manual safety should be kept in the "on" or "safe" position except when actually firing.

Sirs: It's no big deal to me to send my SR9 in for a recall. I have many other guns to shoot while this one is in a factory recall.

What bothers me at this point is Ruger never identifies the parts to be replaced. They state the parts being replaced will not be returned.

It's my gun, I think I should know which parts are being replaced. Why doesn't Ruger identify these parts? Why are these parts being replaced?

Something about this just doesn't sound right to me. For a car recall, the bad parts are identified and replaced. The owner is advised as to what parts are defective and why. But for some unknown reason Ruger has failed to identify the parts....I wonder why? Do you know? Sigmund Bloom

I got the recall notice in the mail from the selling dealer one day after I took delivery interstate. I would like to know why Ruger's unique trigger group was not engineered correctly in the first place! I have no problem waiting until Prescott is ready to fix my SR9, but it sure was a disapointment to get the recall in the same instant I unpacked the box!

I called Ruger yesterday to find out when the return boxes were to be shipped (originally promised to begin in May) and was told by the "SR9 Hot Line" that they are still building their inventory of trigger assemblies before releasing the shipping boxes. "Should begin shipping in 2-3 weeks". I think Ruger should be a little more pro-active in its communication. Ruger has all of our e-mail addresses, right? Give us a clue! (2) How did all this extraenous porn crap get into this web-site?
