10 years after concealed weapons law, unclear why many in state were gun-shy

(GunReports.com) — Ten years after Michigan made it much easier for its citizens to get a license to carry a concealed gun, predictions of widespread lawless behavior and bloodshed have failed to materialize, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Can't bring a gun into a Tavern. What about a bar? In many place Taverns are legally different from other liquor-sserving establishments.

Michigan has more than it's fair share of crime? Sorry every state deserves it's crime level. After all, the crime level is a result of a state's government actions.

Michigan also has Detroit, and blaming THAT situation on state government is a dubious effort. But then the point of the story is the lack of criminal results from making concealed carry easier, not the specifics of the laws, right? CC is illegal in places that sell liquor here too, but if it's really 'CC', who knows? I take mine everywhere, and since I've not needed to use it yet, nobody knows. If I ever do need to use it, I'll just have to trust the jury to do the right thing and let me walk.

Are you shitting me? Who would live in Detroit and NOT carry a gun?

Good point Cecil. I'd have to either move out of that town or get a gun whether it was legal or not. And probably adopt a couple of rescue pit bulls too.

Hell, all the gang bangers have guns, so why not the citizens? Sort of like NYC, all the turds have them despite the Sullivan Law.

Cecil - the gang bangers have more in common with the politicians than we ordinary citizens, since a greater percentage of them are felons!

You have a GOOD point there PVB. Of course that's why I bought an AK, just for the hell of it. When TSHTF, there will be an ample supply of ammo since it seems to be the weapon of choice for the gang bangers.

From 1950 to 1963 Michigan was my home state. It continued as my home of record for the 21 years of my Army career, up until I retired in 1984 and became a Texas resident. You're damned right I carried a gun in Michigan. I also carried in New York, Illinois, and every other place I have been. Back before the airlines became so hoplophobic, I routinely carried when flying too. I can still remember back in 1964, I had taken a flight into New York. The pistol was in the inside pocket of my overcoat. For the flight, I removed the overcoat and put it up in the overhead compartment above my seat. It was very interesting when as we prepared to exit the aircraft in New York, the pistol fell out of the pocket of the overcoat onto the seat. I sorta thought my goose was pretty well cooked, but either nobody saw the gun drop to the seat, or.....could it be?.....nobody really cared.

Damn Colonel. You did have cojones. My 1st wife was from NY and I had to make annual pilgramages to visit in laws and always packed. But thinks got so crazy in the 70's. They even tried to stop me from going to the gate to pick up my family in Houston once. I was in my police uniform and they said I couldn't go past the metal detector with my side arm. AFTER I threatened to put ALL their asses in jail, including some airport police sgt. they decided it was OK. Two weeks later, some nut got up a stairwell and into the boarding area and killed 2 people. Idiots. Had someone like me been there, the outcome could have been a bit different.

Hotter than hell here today. Don't be doing any yard work. WE are getting older you know.

Hey Buddy..... I only went outside to take my dog out for her needs.....and to go to the mail box. This has got to end soon!

i am thinking mid October. I had to go to HEB today and the heat gave me stomach cramps. And to think I used to bitch about being in Alaska.

As memory serves me, I believe that late September to mid-October things start getting a bit more livable hereabouts. Although, I recall back in 1981, when I first arrived at Fort Hood for a tour with the 2nd Armored Div following a tour in Maryland, my first trip to the field for exercises was in October, and it felt pretty damned hot. Perhaps it was a matter of acclimatization coming from the East Coast. At any rate, Texas was.....and is.....far more gun friendly than Maryland could ever be, so I'll put up with the heat in exchange for my Second Amendment rights.

I have seen it 80 degrees on Christmas Day several times. 80 I can live with. 100 kicks my ass. And, yes, Texas does have a love affair with our guns. I have way more than I have hands to shoot them. But you know those Zombies, you have to be ready. I even took my old Benrus in to get repaired yesterday cause when TSHTF, there won't be batteries for a wristwatch. LOL. I am getting crazier by the day. Holding my breath to see what the market does tomorrow. Sure is scaring this old man.

My very first wrist watch was a Benrus Citation. I think I got it in high school, and wore it pretty much through college and into my first few years of active duty in the Army. Most of the watches I have now run on kinetic energy self-winding movements, and one of them, a Seiko, is electric, but the self-winding feature continuously recharges a capacitance discharge system, so you can even let the thing sit still for a few months, and it keeps running.

I forgot about the self winding. I had a Rolex but gave it to my son in law, my dumb ass. But then I don't even work any more so I felt stupid wearing it to wash dishes and clean up dog shit.

That benrus was issued to the troops in WWII and mine is a commemorative issue that I bought for my Dad about 15 years ago. Of course, Benrus is out of business now but you can still get them repaired.
