Converting Old Browning Model A-5s

Newer versions of this famous shotgun use roll pins instead of screws to hold certain action parts. Here’s how to convert early Auto-5s.

Glock Mods: An M1911 Man Branches Out

I’ve worked with the 1911 for many years, and sometimes that experience has been helpful with other pistols, such as the Browning Hi-Power, for example. Sometimes the differences between pistols are hard to spot, and other times we find similarities between handguns that at first seem very different. Another example: If you can work on the Savage 1910, you can work on the Astra 400, and you won’t be confused by the H&K P7M8. But the Glock? Ah, the Glock is an altogether different creature. Sometimes my 1911-based reasoning produces positive results with the Glock, and other times it does not. With the Glock so popular with law-enforcement and now proving itself in competition—winning the first top-class award at IPSC—we’re going to see more and more Glocks turned in for improvement. And at the very least, we should be familiar with the similarities and the differences between the Glock and “old Slabsides.”

In 2003, Obama voted in support of SB1195, which, if passed, would have banned most of the privately held hunting shotguns, target rifles, and black powder rifles in the state.

On The Campaign Trail, Obama Speaks From 'Pro-Gun' Script

May 22, 2008

The Republican National Committee is distributing a release questioning Barack Obama’s commitment to gun rights, which he said he supports in many campaign speeches.

The RNC said that during debates, Obama claimed respect for gun rights.

Obama: "You've got the tradition of lawful gun ownership, that all of us saw, as we travel around rural parts of the country. And it is very important for many Americans to be able to hunt, fish, take their kids out, teach them how to shoot." (Sen. Barack Obama, 2008 Democrat Presidential Debate, Las Vegas, NV, 1/15/08)

But before running for president, Obama expressed support for banning many types of firearms:

On an Independent Voters Of Illinois Independent Precinct Organization 1996 General Candidate Questionnaire on 9/10/96, Obama was asked this question: "Do you support state legislation to ... ban the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns?

Obama's handwritten response: “Yes.”

Scholar John Lott, Jr. has said: "In fact, I knew Obama during the mid-1990s, and his answers to question on guns fit well with the Obama that I knew. Indeed, the first time I introduced myself to him he said, 'Oh, you are the gun guy.' I responded 'Yes, I guess so.' He simply responded that 'I don't believe that people should be able to own guns.'"

John R. Lott Jr., "Obama And Guns: Two Different Views," Fox News, www.foxnews.com, 4/7/08)

In 2003, Obama voted in support of SB1195, which, if passed, would have banned most of the privately held hunting shotguns, target rifles, and black powder rifles in the state.

If the ban was enacted, law enforcement officials would have been authorized to forcibly enter private homes to confiscate newly banned firearms.

Can't wait to see Barack in brand, spanking new hunting gear, toting a shotgun, to show how pro-gun he really is.... Maybe he and Hillary can go shooting together?

Ted, are you up for this? :-)

Well if they do go hunting together maybe they will invite Cheney.

Read the President's Column, A True Threat To Freedom in the June issue American Rifleman by John C. Sigler. If that doesn't convince you, I don't know what will.

I would not trust his word on any subject as far as I could throw him. American Indians would name him "He Who Speaks With Forked Tongue"

On the other hand, Obama was the only candidate out of the three remaining contenders to vote in favor of HR 5441 which prohibited federal agents from confiscating legally owned firearms during a declared state of emergency. McCain and Hillary voted against it.

We really don't have any good pro gun choices this election. All three candidates are in favor of restoring the useless "Assault Weapon" ban.

hi

A lot can happen in 12 years to change a man's mind. Obama made that comment in 1996. Perhaps campaigning at the presidential level in rural America has moved him more toward our side.

My recollection is that McCain voted against the "Assault Weapon" renewal and vote against the original ban. If I am wrong on this please correct me. Obama will no doubt support the UN treaty and McCain will not and McCain will appoint original intent judges.

OBAMA ALSO HAS SAID, " NO ONE SHOULD HAVE A CONCEAL CARRY PERMIT." I WOULD AGREE, IF I HAD SECERT SERVICE ANGENTS GUARDING ME, 24/ 7. MAY BE HE SHOULD ASK THE ANGENTS, TO GIVE UP THEIR CONCEAL FIREARMS.

Obama is anti-gun period. His voting and people he surrounds himself with confirms that fact. Why do you think Hollywood loves him? This guy is going to change this country alright, unfortunately it will not be for the better. His Quote " This is the greatest country in the world, please join me to change it".

Our entire way of life is at great risk here, not just firearms but everything we hold near and dear. The simple fact is that politicians lie to get votes. I do not trust Mr. Barack Hussein Obama.

Well-if you think Obama Hussein...is pro-gun ya' been smoking something; just because his lips are moving does not mean he is telling the truth

Well, everybody is right about what we have to choose from on this election, but the President can't change the law without the Senate and Congress going along with it, so you better choose these very very carefully.

Obama vs 2nd Amendment Right ? The bible says you can tell a tree by the fruit it bears. The obamatalking tree has not yielded freedom loving 2nd AMEND fruit. Don't cultivate it. Tear it up and cast it out. mike

The WORST task we ALL have is to find the ONE candidate who is NOT Lying to the American people!!!!! George Mason ,in The Second Amendment Primer p. 101, said this," To disarm the people (is) the best and most effectual way to enslave them...!!!! How NEAR are we to this?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!??

Obama has never seen an anti gun bill he did not like.

Comment by John A

OBAMA BIN LAUDEN, AS I CALL HIM, HAS THE FACE OF A CHILD, AND THE MIND THAT GOES WITH IT. REMEMBER KERRI? HE TRIED THE BIG LIE BY GOING HUNTING, ONCE IN HIS LIFE. OBAMA HAS THE INTELLEGENCE OF A SINGLE CELLED ANIMAL. HIS REMARKS THAT I HAVE HEARD ARE ANTI-AMERICAN, ANTI-CONSTITUTION AND SHOULD GET HIM, AND THE REST OF THE ANTI-GUN CROWD TRIED FOR TREASON, AND IF NOT THAT, THEN AS TERRORISTS.
