GunReports.com Video: Shooting Better Kneeling

December 26, 2011

Printer Friendly | Email |

(GunReports.com) — MSGT Raoul Torres shows how the competition or field shooter can improve the standard kneeling position taught to most shooters. He demonstrates how the standard kneeling position with the elbow on the knee and butt sitting on the foot is unstable and offers a high target for the enemy. He advocates using a kneeling position with the magazine in front of the knee that's very stable, and shows less of your body to the enemy.

I like that 'new' position, but with all the injuries I've had I might need help unwinding from it at the range.

Kinda gets in the way of the lever.

Any position that affords increased stability of the firearm in shooting is a good position. I remember that in Basic, when qualifying with the M-1 Garand, I was quite fond of the kneeling, squatting, and sitting positions. It took a bit of time to get into the sitting position, and it was sort of a toss-up for time to get into the kneeling and squatting positions. Of those two, kneeling was the most stable position. It is the position that, to this day, is my preferred position for hasty fire.

Good point Mister E!

Guys, don't forget that for right hand shooters you'd reverse the leg positions, and be sitting on your right ankle. In the video, he says he's a lefty shooter.

I will have to try this technique sometime!
