ATF Fast and Furious: New documents show Attorney General Eric Holder was briefed in July 2010

October 3, 2011

Printer Friendly | Email |

(GunReports.com) - New documents obtained by CBS News show Attorney General Eric Holder was sent briefings on the controversial Fast and Furious operation as far back as July 2010. That directly contradicts his statement to Congress.

On May 3, 2011, Holder told a Judiciary Committee hearing, "I'm not sure of the exact date, but I probably heard about Fast and Furious for the first time over the last few weeks."

Yet internal Justice Department documents show that at least ten months before that hearing, Holder began receiving frequent memos discussing Fast and Furious.

Liar, liar, pants on fire! Time to resign now for lying to Congress, perjury, and obstruction of justice. Bye, bye, Mr. Holder.

Eric Holder is above the law, just ask him. There's roughly 545 liars in Congress and SCOTUS and Holder is their mentor!

There will be a special prosecutor named to investigate Fast n' Furious. Hopefully not one picked by Holder.lol

If "Scooter" can go to jail for lying to Congress, can't Holder?

this guy should be arrested and jailed like the common criminal. after all the is just an appointed stooge of the prez's.

I truly believe that with two stalwarts such as Darrel Issa and Chuck Grassley pursuing this case, we will see a special prosecutor appointed who will be accountable only to Congress and the truth. Once all of the facts have been dug out of the stonewall erected by Holder and his cronies, we may yet see some justice come home to roost.

I'm with you canovack!

Even through all of the redacting in the supporting documents to the article, it is very clear that Fast and Furious was a cooperative effort including DEA and ICE as well as other agencies. Clearly, Holder knew. What will be very interesting is how Obama will handle this as it continues to blow.

Canovack - time will tell. Didn't the Watergate thing take a couple of years before it got to where Nixon resigned over the cover-up? Seems like it did, but justice prevailed. This could take a while too.

All of them Chicago politicals are crooks its disgusting about how those who heap stupid laws upon laws on us seem to think they're exempted and above the law . If congress finds enough evidence and can stop thier partisan bickering to prosecute him the tax payers will have to pay the bill. If I were president and truly didn't know any thing about what went on I'ld hold him responseable for what went on in his command and fire him for embarrassing me so if he gets prosecuted he would have to pay for his defense.

Yeah, david b, it will take some time for this thing to come to such a boil that it overflows, but I am feeling more optimistic about it with each new bit of news that breaks. What is really needed here is a bright-eyed bushy-tailed investigative reporter in the tradition of Woodward and Bernstein to get more of the really stinky stuff dug up and under the public nose to get things really moving.

THE NOOSE IS TIGHTENING MR HOLDER. GRAB HOLD OF YOUR BOSS, WHO SURELY KNEW, AND DRAG YOUR BUTTS UNDER THE BUS.....

Watergate did take some time. Part of the impetus for the special prosecutor was Woodward and Bernstein staying on task.

Interesting thought JFS - will Holder pull his boss under the bus?

You all are dead wrong on where this will lead. Its going nowhere. Holder and his boss will be left untouched. Thats because when Democrats break the law, its ok because they are intrinsically good people and only motivated by doing right for the American working poor. Republican scandals require Woodward and Bernstein dogged pursuit because they are intrinsically evil and deserving of prosecution and hatred. Thus the lapdog press can salve its conscious guilt free by taking a hands off approach to anything wrong in the Obama adminstration.

So far the upshot of the F&F program has been reassignments (not resignations) of those caught. I anticipate that this trend will continue. There may well be a special prosecutor, and one should be appointed right now. But I fear that the results will be disappointing.

The big differences between F&F and Watergate are, I think twofold. First are those involved. Nixon was the left's biggest bogeyman. The leftist media gave Watergate excruciatingly detailed coverage as part of a concerted effort to get Nixon (probably deservedly so). Compare that with that same, now even more leftist, media's slavish devotion to Obama and its comparative meager coverage of F&F. It is highly unlikely that we will ever see any call for resignations, a special prosecutor or impeachment in the Washington Post or the New York Times. Second, was a sense of national moral outrage at Watergate that is not present in F&F. Despite his famous denial, Nixon was a crook. The prevailing attitude now seems to be that law breaking in the White House is now SOP and nothing to get exercised about. That is the part of the equation that causes me to fear for the future of this nation.

Nobody died from Watergate. FF was a politically motivated attempt to curtail the rights of innocent gun stores and utltimately, citizen gun owners. Remember Obama's promise to Sarah Brady that they were "working on something under the radar". During Watergate it was "follow the money". Today it is "follow the ideology".

One question guys - you all call the news media 'leftist'. However, there are only 3 corporations owning most of the media in this country, and one is Rupert Murdoch's. Murdoch is hardly a leftist, and more of a fascist. So why do you claim all the media is 'leftist'? Wouldn't it be more accurate to say it's all government controlled? That was what the set-up (and it was clearly a set-up) of Dan Rather was about during the last administration - proving they could destroy a career if somebody didn't play ball.

In my opinion, Rather's fundamental problem was that his ego got entirely too big for his britches. I was glad to see him go and not have to listen to his drivel. As for Murdoch, he seems to go whichever way the wind blows to prevent a rising tide from washing his business interests out to sea. Of course, we've recently been hearing what a self-serving scoundrel he is. Are you trying to say the media doesn't slant well to the left?

I readily grant the point that there are exceptions (notably Murdoch and Fox News), however the vast majority of information from the traditional media that reaches the American people has a decided leftist slant (see e.g. New York and LA Times, Washington Post, NPR, major network reports). If there is any question about this, imagine if Obama were a conservative Republican who drove our economy into the toilet. The above listed and others would be calling for his head loudly and nationally and labeling those who opposed that mind set as somehow less than rational. I know, Bush may have started it, but Obama is going to finish us all.

I don't want to take the focus off the current set of crooks, but apparently 'F&F' was simply the Obama version of "Operation Wide Receiver" which was run under Bush and was pretty much the same program. I don't know any more right now than what you can read here, where I read about it. http://www.examiner.com/gun-rights-in-national/wide-receiver-ci-it-had-nothing-to-do-with-bush-or-even-doj?CID=examiner_alerts_article

Apparently, we've been feeding guns to drug cartels for a lot longer than Obama's been POTUS.

PVB - one doesn't have to like Rather, but I meant the circumstances under which that faked document was presented to him and then announced as fake. It was just like an Andrew Breitbart entrapment. Hell, if you want to sink people over personalities, let's talk about Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck.

Visigoth52 - I would suggest that the 'decided leftist slant' you decry is mostly simply left of where you are. Until recently it was an accepted tenet of American society that we would do things to take care of the less fortunate. In the last 15 years all those social programs have suddenly been labeled as 'Socialist' - which if true would be 'leftist'. But paid police and a standing army are 'socialist' in economic terms too, as well as fire departments, public education, Social Security, and an entire host of things I doubt you would want to give up if I could list them all. VA medical services for example, are 'socialist' when you come down to it. Under a purely 'conservative' government, you'd pay your own way - all of us would - in every respect.

I just don't see the news media as quite as 'left' as some of you guys do - but maybe that's because I went to college in the '60's at a place where you couldn't throw a stick without hitting a self-declared 'communist'. In fact, I'm rather disgusted with the media's apparent love affair with the Tea Party.

But really, I think our news media (not op-ed shows as you see on cable TV) are told what to report on and what not to. Who was that news lady who lost her job after saying on TV that they are told what to discuss on a daily basis, and that the directions came from the White House? Connie Chung, I think. It was back a few years - Clinton or Bush administration I believe. Probably pre-Bush, because apparently Rather hadn't learned that lesson and had to be made into an example.

The media has a love affair with the Tea Party? Frankly, I thought they were doing a pretty good job of vilifying them!

Tithing has been around for millennia, and will continue long after we are gone. Certain functions, like the police, military, and firefighters probably should be government run. Where socialism, or leftist extremism if you prefer, becomes a problem is in the level of abuse and government involvement in tithing and servicing.

The way I see it, there is very little difference between an extremist on either end of the political spectrum. In fact, I have always viewed it as more of a circle than linearly. The extreme "conservative" and extreme "liberal" have way more in common than they do differences.

Where the Hell is Gaviota, anyway?

PVB, I located Gaviota a couple of weeks ago, and he said that he has a new job that keeps him away from home for 5 out of 7 days per week. I'd imagine that when he does get back home, his priorities lie in getting some rest and recuperation. He appreciates that we miss him, and he will try to post when he can.

I'm glad he's doing well. A lot of people would be happy to be in his position right now... Thank you sir!

Like you, PVB, I have come to regard Gaviota as a good friend. Our association began with us on opposing sides of a political viewpoint, and we came to know and respect each other. More than once, we have come to each other's defense in this forum. Those of us who post in this forum on a regular basis and have been doing so for quite a while, have a tendency to develop some pretty strong feelings for each other. We are, in a matter of speaking, brothers in a fraternity of freedom. Each of us has some special qualities that are deserving of our mutual respect, and these have resulted in some interestingly strong friendships.

Love affair meaning they get way more press time than they deserve, P V B. If they're getting 'trashed' about their lies and inconsistencies, well, that's just the job of the press corps. I don't expect there'd be any complaints here about Nancy Pelosi getting that same treatment....

Canovack - roger.

David - If Nancy Pelosi actually got that treatment.... She can fly her husband to Iraq at our expense, where he will conduct activities that will help him win a contract bid, and it barely gets mentioned, unless you read the National Review or Imprimis. At this point, tea Party coverage to me all seems to be about discrediting the candidates who have picked up on the supposed ground swell. I guess if you believe any publicity is better than no publicity, I would agree; otherwise, it comes out as the media bashing conservatives and favoring the left, yet again. (I realize some of this stems from extremists purporting to be conservatives "hijacking" the Tea Party agenda. The original intent of the Tea Party movement seems to have been lost.)

The latest on Holder is his public announcement that he is peeved that Issa, Grassley, et al. are calling him on his lies about what he knew and when he knew it. He is incensed that these folks are questioning his credibility. Eric appears not to realize that the time to fold his tent is now.

Holder is an arrogant little cuss, isn't he Visigoth?

Well, arrogance appears to be one of the qualifications for acceptance into the Obama administration.....

Oh, God and everyone else please forgive me for what I am about to write, but Holder and most of the other Obama appointees wouldn't have stood a snowball's chance in hell of being where they are if this was 40 years ago. We've become so accustomed to accepting poor performance and lackadaisical attitudes about it as a result of the PC attitude that there can be no criticism of any minority person, that nobody seems willing to hold their noses to the same grindstone the rest of us get on job performance. So, OF COURSE they're arrogant. They've benefited for years from 'I don't have to perform that well and you can't touch me or I'll scream about your racism and get your a$$ in hot water', so they think they now think themselves untouchable.

It's not everybody mind you, but you still see it in the news and in society on a nearly daily basis. The entire idea of 'politically correct' is nothing but a social way of depriving our First Amendment rights.

Arrest these people already. Why does this take so long. It appears to me they have enough evidence already to remove them from office.
