Anti-Hunting Connecticut Couple Refuse Access, Allow Legally-Killed Deer to Rot
October 26, 2009Printer Friendly | Email |
REDDING, Conn. -- This from the Connecticut Post:
There is a dead deer lying about 40 yards beyond Lynn Gorfinkle's back deck.
It has been there, with a fatal arrow wound in its side, since Oct. 2. And it will remain there indefinitely, she said.
The carcass of the young spike buck could have gone home with the hunter, who shot it on nearby property and tracked it to the Gorfinkles' 3.5 acres on Fire Hill Road, but Mike and Lynn Gorfinkle were having none of that.
"If someone's going to eat that deer, I want it to be natural predators," she said. "Not some hunter."
The hunter knocked on the door and asked permission to remove the deer from the property, where it had finally collapsed, she said.
"My husband told him to just go away, he couldn't have the deer," she said.
Gorfinkle, the CEO of Animal Rights Alliance in Redding, said she snapped photographs of the deer where it fell as it died, then flipped it over and took more to document the cause of death: a lethal lung puncture.

More dumb liberals.
This is what you have when stupid people are permitted to procreate: Lynn Gorfinkle, the CEO of Animal Rights Alliance in Redding. I propose a name change to Lyin' Gorf Inkle. We'll call her Gorf for short.
(From the article)
"...his lack of judgment ... shooting that close to a suburban backyard. I will never go out there so casually again. It impairs the enjoyment of your own property when you feel you have to look over your shoulder or wear fluorescent orange or something. We wouldn't even have known he was hunting back there unless he'd come to the door."
So, now Gorf's "afraid" because of something that she didn't know about at the time, and which never, in the county's historical records, has ever caused a human injury, much less death? Of course, she's not really afraid. She is telling a lie for dramatic effect in order to garner the sympathies of other stupid people. In reality, the only thing Gorf has reason be afraid of is everybody else's sudden realization that she's a misguided, ignorant, ugly old woman who has no understanding whatever of any of the natural sciences, who can't shut her mouth about it.
Gaviota
"It was a crime scene, in my opinion, the minute that it was shot," she said."
Fortunately for the rest of humanity, Gorf's abysmally foolish opinions do not have the force of law.
"Early this year, Stamford ended a deer hunt on city property a day early because of complaints, and even death threats, from animal-rights activists, a city official said."
And here we see the famous Liberal Big Lie at work. It's not okay to kill deer, but it is okay to kill a hunter while he's legally hunting, just because a liberal disapproves of it. Stamford caved unnecessarily, because if liberal "animal lovers" actually had any physical courage the threat might be credible, but they don't, so it doesn't.
"Hunting shows a lack of respect for conscious life, they say..."
CONSCIOUS life? Oh, now only CONSCIOUS life deserves respect? What about all those trillions upon trillions of living organisms on our planet which DON'T have separate and distinct central nervous systems? Oh, you racist, speciesist bastiges!
Gaviota
I would have returned to Gorfinkles property wearing my werewolf costume and reclaimed my spoiling carcass.
does not connecticut have a law tht allows the hunter to go on to a persons property to claim an animal that was legally taken somewhere else and just happened to fall over on the property? here in iowa we have to call the game warden and he will go with you. you can't take a weapon with you but if the property owner refuses to allow you on their property they get arrested and fined. anyway maybe the deer has deer ticks and this gorf person will get lymes disease and die from it. would be fitting end for her. then the hunter could let her stinking rotten carcass decay on his property.
Anyone for a little skeet shooting next door to this woman's property? When she calls animal control to remove the carcass, they should refuse or at least charge a BUNCH of money for the deed. She's nuts for sure.
We as hunters must always respect property owners rights and wishes. If we stoop to their level we will lose the high ground in this debate. While we all recognize that her views are extreme, she has a right to them. We need to find a way to introduce others to our sport and help strengthen our right to keep hunting. By keeping these debates on a higher level we stand a better chance to sway others to our side and less of a chance of making their case for them.
I can appreciate the woman's safety concerns around the possibility of getting shot in her own yard, however when you build adjacent to a hunting preserve that would seem to come with the territory. I am incredulous that anyone believes nature on its own will resolve severe deer overpopulation; how humanitarian is it to rely on starvation, disease and vehicle rundowns to thin the herd? I'll second XD63's comment about keeping the discussion on the high ground. Calling her an "ugly old woman" and hoping that she "...will get lymes(sic) disease and die from it" is not helpful.
I too echo the remarks of XD63. That said, I feel compelled to mention that this happened somewhere BESIDES California!! CA has been the source of enough ignorance and the butt of too many jokes. It seems that ignorance knows no boundaries.
Is it not ileagle to let game meat spoil . I know it is in my neck of the woods , these people should be charged!
XD63: Your courtesy does you credit, but you are misreading your opponent. Gorf and her ilk will lie, cheat, and steal in order to impose their view of the world on their fellow man. No amount of high-minded discussion will change the mind of the fanatic. All you can do, as I have done, is point and laugh.
Charles: "I can appreciate the woman's safety concerns around the possibility of getting shot in her own yard..."
Can you really? I can't. She's lying about her safety concerns. She has none, never has, and never will. Her statements are purely political. If she could have pointed to an arrow sticking out of the side of her house and claim that it just missed her, do you think we wouldn't have heard about it on the national news? She'd have screamed from here to next year.
As far as keeping debate on "high ground", just whom do you believe our discussions here are NOT helping? Fence sitters? They can read the article and make their own judgements, same as you and me. They can clearly see that she's abusing people's civil rights and attempting to interfere with other people's legal activities by calling forth the power of the state to restrict other people's freedom and liberty, for no better reason than She Says So. Calling her abysmally foolish, ignorant, misguided, ugly, and loudmouthed is actually kindness personified compared to what could be said of her, AND her totalitarian views.
Gaviota
Let,s not be hypocritical. Though we may not like her position, she has the right to say who comes onto her private property. If we attempt to infringe on that right then we weaken our demand for protection of our 2nd ammendment rights. We can,t pick and choose which rights are important. Every right that we have as American,s has to be protected or the whole system breaks down.
I think a few of you are missing the point, this lady is doing everything she can to take away YOUR Constitution Rights. There is a difference between having a point of view and trying to rid people of their 2nd amendment rights. Granted, getting more people into our sport would help our cause. With that being said, you are never going to change the mind of a radical liberal. 200 years ago she would have starved to death with the mind set she has now. Not today, with our modern society of easy living that thwarts Darwinism. Is it ethical to let an animal rot instead of harvesting the meat? Whose the bad guy? People like this are ruining this country and should not be handled with kid gloves.
I respect that the property belongs to them. What I don't respect is that they would be so crass as to let the animal decompose and invite the scavengers to their back yard. THAT is unhealthy. They better cover their garbage can well.I wouldn't want to be anywhere near their property.
Aswe all know, sometimes It's preferable to act immediately and chance asking forgiveness later. She obviously didn't know he was on the same planet as she.Forty yards to:approx.forty seconds, forty yards back with deer:three to five minutes tops. One must make all reasonable efforts to retrive downed game. She would have never been the wiser. Sneaky, misdemeaner,or common courtesy to a magnificent piece of protein the hunter and his family could no dought use. Your choice. Mine? I'd be grillin' backstraps! Rex in Missouri

"If someone's going to eat that deer, I want it to be natural predators," she said."
Gorfinkle sounds like a woman who'd really enjoy having lots of predators entering her backyard.
RackEmPunk: You're right! I didn't even notice that particular bit of asininity. Gorf has declared, contradicting millions of years of biological, anthropological, and sociological evidence, that mankind is not a "natural predator." This is BEYOND stupidity. It's nothing short of determined, obstinate, and wildly illogical self-delusion.
I think I'm starting to dislike her.
Gaviota
I hope the people that live around her will complain to the proper people and they give her a nice big fine to py when the dead deer starts to stink up the area. then maybe she would learn a lesson, thank God I don't hunt In that type of areas. Talk about Morons. God Bless America and Our Troops Past, Present and Future. Keeping To My Oath Locked, Loaded, and Keeping My Powder Dry
Sounds like an obama voter
I have to disagree with Gaviota. With hunters on the one side and extremists on the other, it is exactly the people in the middle that may well hold the swing vote in the end. I do agree that we will most likely never be able to change the minds of people such as her. All the more reason to turn our efforts on the others in the middle. I was lucky enough to have been born into a hunting family. My friends from the city were not so lucky. Without my influence they may have never gotten the chance, either. We have just reached the point where more people live in cities than in the country in this nation. Numerically speaking, it will just get harder form here on out.
XD63: What exactly are you disagreeing with me about? Is it your opinion that we should allow the Gorfs of this world to bray, croak, and caw without challenge? Or, if it is simply the harshness of MY response that you object to, well, I think I'd be more inclined to understand your viewpoint if you had condemned HER rhetorical abuses as well. But you didn't.
So, if you were in the room with this woman, and listened to her slander you for being a hunter, and spew her contaminated, anti-freedom, Bizarro-nature thinking all over the assembled audience of "people in the middle," how would you handle it?
Gaviota
If there were 2 people in a room, one ranting and raving wildly, the other calm and acting rationally. Which one would the average observer turn to to to seek out what is actually going on? It is just my point that we be the calm and rational ones.
"Which one would the average observer turn to to to seek out what is actually going on?"
Okay, we're operating on different wavelengths here. The AVERAGE observer isn't going to do anything but sit on his lard ass and soak up the drama.
I respect you for the evident fact that you're not a politician, but remember, Gorf is practicing the lowest form of politics, here, demanding that the State infringe upon the People's liberty. Calm and rational isn't enough to get through to the folks. They'll fall asleep while you're talking. There has to be heat, passion, and urgency in any political discussion for it to be interesting to the fence-sitters. Look at the last presidential political race. McCain was calm and rational, and not enough people stayed awake to listen to him.
So, if you're in the room with Gorf, and she's having a full-on psychotic break and screeching that hunters are evil and all hunting, bows, and guns must be banned to save Bambi, what are the limits of your verbal response if you do not intend to be shouted down? If you're not going to call her on her deviation from reality and point out that she's deluded, foolish, or ignorant, what will you say? How emphatically will you say it? What are the limits of your passion in defending yourself from her attacks on your character, convictions, and personal habits? If you refuse to be loud and/or harsh, what WILL you do? What's your debate style?
Gaviota
XD63 is giving this woman the benefit of the doubt by just purely thinking she has a different point of view. A different point of view is when 1 person wants beef for dinner and 1 wants chicken, these are different points of view. When 1 person says the other should not have meat anymore, even though they are carnivores, this is no longer a point of view. When you are trying to take rights away from others it is no longer a simple point of view, its past that. People that are trying to take rights away from others need to be handled in a more extreme way than just calm debate. I agree with you Gaviota. XD63 you would be more correct if this were just a discussion over chicken or beef for dinner. This is beyond simple points of view, she is dead wrong, end of story, no flowery debate.
At the very least, I hope everyone here is an NRA member.

Like I said before, XD63 is a courteous man, a gentleman. I freely concede that courtesy, respect, and calm, rational debate is a very good thing, works most of the time, and should always be the first resort. But, it doesn't work with the Gorfs of the world, and firmer methods are necessary to cut through the abusive, dishonest tactics of the world's leftists, all of whom have a very long history of abuse and dishonesty.
Sometimes you just have to call a spade an ugly, nasty, lying, obstinately stupid, abysmally ignorant spade. Because it's true.
Gaviota
I agree with you Gaviota and to XD63 I meant no disrespect. I just wanted to make the point that there is a difference between having different points of view and wanting to take rights away from others. The former deserves rational debate and the latter needs to be handled in a more extreme way.
Lee W. When all else fails, take an hallucinagenic drug and join "Citizens for Obama".Just don't run out of the drug. Semper Fi
Take a hallucinogenic drug AND join "Citizens for Obama"? Isn't that kind of redundant?
Gaviota
Since you phrased it that way, YES.
No matter which side of the "Fence", your on; look at it logically!...There are more Deer, around now, than back in the early years of Settling, this country! I'm basically a Conservationist. [Mostly, because of our overbuilding], they have no place to go; and are starving! Now, in Maryland, the "Bag Limit",has increased; to as many as you want!...[Which, i feel is ridiculous!]. Here in the Florida Keys, the "Key Deer", are also starving! No hunting here!... And Feeding them, is also a punishable Offense!...[You get less time in Jail, if you shoot another person, than you would, if you shot one of these "Scrawny, Starving, Little "Key Deer"!...] These animals, have to be controlled, or, we'll not have them!... Wake-Up!... Hunting Seasons, are doing just that!... Practicing Conservation!... And, allowing, our citizens, the right to execute their Second Amendment rights...
