(GunReports.com)-- New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Sunday the shooting of former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords should have sparked a national dialogue about gun laws. Bloomberg made his comments on NBCs Meet the Press hours before his gun control ad with Boston Mayor Thomas Menino was scheduled to air during the Super Bowl.
Youd think that if a congresswoman got shot in the head, that would have changed Congress views, Bloomberg told NBCs David Gregory.
Bloomberg has initiated entrapment tactics and used straw buyers in other states to build the case against gun ownership. He consistently misstates the laws on background checks. And he and Boston Mayor Tom Menino polluted the Super Bowl with an anti-gun commercial:
Bloomberg and those of his ilk are blinded by their own self-importance. His little pitch was about as inspiring as a turd in the punchbowl at a New Years' party. I have yet to see the NRA lift a finger over the outrageous firearm laws in Mass. I am a member of GOAL because they do but dropped my NRA membership years ago because of this. I really shouldn't say this about anybody but it's too bad Bloomberg wasn't standing in front of Giffords that day. This simply goes to prove that you don't have to be smart to make a lot of money. Nor does having a butt-load of cash make you smart. I wonder if NYC would totally ban firearms if Bloomie got shot in the head? How dare he try to parlay Congresswoman Gifford's tragedy into support for his personal agenda! I can understand some frustration at the NRA not stepping in where we want them to. That said, make the NRA leadership aware of your concerns, and if they hear from enough members, it can make a difference. Quitting an organization has never convinced an organization to do something. I'm conflicted about my NRA membership - even though I went for a multi-year renewal last year. But it seems to me they are too willing to compromise our natural rights and Constitutional guarantees thereof - and that makes me unhappy. They seem to spend more time and money on 'winnable' cases than on getting the serious offenses tried and made public record. And yes, I understand not wanting to lose any and have the pendulum go go the other way, too. But still.... On the other hand, I don't see some of the more 'aggressive gun-rights' organizations represented in court either. So I'm not sure how I really feel about the NRA - other than conflicted by their apparent lack of firm Second Amendment principles. I'm afraid they might be willing to 'make a deal' under a martial law kind of situation - leaving me and some of you guys to fight on our own for our liberty. Not only that, but I think they get involved too deeply in party politics (not mind you, "partisan" politics) for somebody that is supposedly working only one issue - the Second Amendment. They seem to spread too much fear-mongering in order to generate donations. I don't like fear-mongers, no matter who they are, and I have no respect for those who do it for funding. Bush and Cheney spent 80% of their time trying to scare us, Obama hardly any, yet the NRA is seriously anti-Obama and was NOT nearly so anti-Bush. Yeah, I'm conflicted - can you tell? I don't like the way they play, but they're one of the only players we gun-guys have on our side. Politicians.we put them in 1 place & drop a nuke on them all...... David b, your last line pretty much sums it up. As I stated above, quitting the NRA will get nothing done. Telling the NRA what we want it to do and not do, is the only way that they will get our message. As I have stated, in this forum many times, the NRA is the big dog in our fight to preserve our Second Amendment rights. I applaud the efforts and actions of all of the gun rights organizations, and I hold memberships in most of them, however the NRA is THE most powerful lobby in Washington, so even if we are not always delighted with what it does, we should still support the NRA. The commercial was produced and created bu "Lead Balloon Productions," another Bloomberg business. I guess he didn't hear that gun control in America is a bad investment. This is hilarious..... Bloomberg with "Lead Balloon Productions". No wonder the commercial tanked..... It went over like a lead balloon!
