(GunReports.com) -- The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today called on newly-sworn-in San Francisco County Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi to step down as a result of domestic violence charges now filed against him.
The San Francisco Examiner reported that the anti-gun Mirkarimi owns three handguns, which he had to surrender because of the domestic violence charges.
CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb said, "Here's a man who has supported restrictive gun control measures while on the Board of Supervisors, and yet he had three handguns. He just was elected sheriff, and now he's accused of a crime that, if he is convicted, could cost him his gun rights for the rest of his life under federal law.
"Perhaps Mirkarimi's biggest problem is that he is now exposed as a double-standard elitist."
Gottlieb said the case also brings focus on a domestic violence law that seems to treat people as though they are guilty until proven innocent. What other law allows the state to deprive someone of constitutional rights in this case, the right to keep and bear arms before they are convicted of a crime?
I BET HE NEVER HAD TO SPEND A NIGHT IN HIS JAIL,LIKE ALL OF US WOULD IF WE DONE SOMETHING LIKE THIS Again, an example of how the police state that Obama and Holder have been forming is gaining control. No connection? Yeah right.More and more police are becoming criminals with the authority to arrest and hassle anyone they want. How often do you see police ignoring traffic laws, ignoring drunk driving laws and becoming like the old USSR's KGB.If Obama wins another term this will become the USSA (United Socialist States of Amerika). I get angry whenever I hear that anti-gun people have guns themselves (or hire gun carrying body guards like Rosie O'Donald and thousands of other elitists) while try to deprive law-abiding folks from their constitutional right to keep and bear arms. "Elitist" is probably the best description of them. They EXPECT double standards - one standard for them and another for all others. Mirkarimi is for legalization of marijuana and has repeatedly taken positions opposed to police; namely, in supporting the release of 8 Black Panthers accused of slaying a police officer and in supporting an indie who refused to release a tape containing footage of a police officer being beaten. That he won the election for sheriff is another indication of how whacked San Francisco has become. (These are the same people we need to vote out Boxer, Feinstein, & Pelosi, btw...) Chicago-born, his father was an Iranian Muslim, and his mother a Russian Jew. He is pro-union, a member of NOW, and supporter of gay and transgender causes. He also wants to ban smoking in public parks and plastic bags in supermarkets, and now we learn that, like many other anti-gunners, he wants us to be deprived of our rights while he has guns. (I wonder if the smoking ban would include weed...) Here is a quote regarding his support for the aforementioned "journalist:" Mirkarimi said when a government actively persecutes dissent, using all the branches of government to silence opposition; the citizenry will eventually rise up and be forced to consider civil disobedience to make their values and their voices heard. Mirkarimi went as far as to suggest, "Maybe it's time for a new revolution?" My question: How did he get those handguns, and did he have a permit when he did? It is always reprehensible when those who are sworn to enforce the law and protect the citizenry turn out to be felons in their own right. This guy needs to be tried, convicted, and thrown into the general population of one of California's prisons, so those whom he hypocritically helped to put away can put him away. Wow. This guy sounds like a regular 'liberal'. Except for the guns. How do we explain those? However, keeping your own guns when you're trying to take mine is hypocritical at best, and dangerous to liberty itself. Under that long dress, you know the Statue of Liberty has a pistol tucked in her garter.... Guys I hate to say this but this has gone on for years;the people in charge making rules for everyone else but it doesn't apply to them!! Mariano - welcome to the fray! We've been going on here about the hypocrisy of politicians in general, and anti-gunners in particular, for quite some time now.... C'mon folks, this is San Francisco we are talking about. Logic and reason? If it doesn't come straight from Wonderland, they don't get it. What's bad about your top cop not being able to own a gun, let alone carry? As a matter of fact, it should start a trend so that no cop should be allowed a deadly weapon. All criminals need is to be engaged in meaningful dialogue, right? And if your top cop has a record, so what? It only makes him more relevant to a greater part of the people. All of this from the same city that had one of the most active Vigilance Committees about 150 years ago. When I was witha the 4th Inf Div in Vietnam, we often heard songs played over AFVN, and one of the songs was "If You're Going To San Francisco....." Even back in the 1960s, we finished out the line with....."Be sure to bring your M16....." Vis - "should start a trend so that no cop should be allowed a deadly weapon." It works in England, right? ;) Canovack - I'd prefer an M-14... (All the better to butt stroke with!) PVB, I'd have to agree, but when the music was playing I still had my little toy rifle by Mattel. I hadn't traded it off for an M14 just yet. He had to give up his guns BEFORE being convicted?? Back Asswards. Any woman could file a protection order or DV claims against any one of us...with very little proof. It does NOT mean the guy is guilty! Remember - San Francisco; also, the article does not indicate if the guns were legally acquired or owned. I remember back in 71 I was with the MP's on the Presideo and we had the hippy anti war clowns come on base so we got to bust some heads, I got to have the fun of taking down a big boy that spit on my ribbons, with a lead filled 3 ft riot controll stick, and the way I did it he was sent to the hospital, with his conads shove back up inside him and most likly never able to have kids, the SFPD just waited for us to throw them out the gate and then put them in patty wagons, boy that was fun, after being in country and hearing all the crap, thank God I was able to transfer out of the MP's, This Clown sounds like a Fienstien clone. She past a law of no guns in SF and didn't put in about except LE, and most of the cops signed the citizens tickets, and the courts made her pay the fines, several million bucks and drop the law. That was when she was Mayor of SF. God Bless America and Our Troops Past Present and Future. Keeping to My Oath Locked Loaded and Keeping My Powder Dry. Get the US Out of the UN and the UN Out of the US Someone likes to toot their own hot air... To Myk9: 1) When a domestic violence complaint is filed, a TRO (Temporary Restraining Order) is issued and the police, in just about every jurisdiction, routinely and temporarily seize the firearms of the accused. Only if convicted of a felony does that seizure permanently apply. 2) Didn't you get taught not to mix metaphors? It makes you look ignorant. 3) Bear was not tooting his own horn. He was expressing a feeling common to troopers returning from Southeast Asia at the time. Now we hear "Welcome home," even from those who don't like what we were doing. Then, we were reviled, spat on, and sometimes doused with blood and other bodily fluids. This was particularly true in San Francisco. The Bear reacted the same way that any other man who had spent time in country would have, and probably a bit milder. So, Myk, you "Know" squat, and you should know what you can do up a rope. Thanks for your comments, Visigoth52. While many have thanked us old Vietnam Vets for our service, there apparently remain some out there who have no concept of what service to country and sacrifice is about. For them to attempt to degrade our contribution is little more than sour grapes, since they didn't do what every freedom loving American citizen has done.....either by serving in the armed forces, or by thanking those who have. Well said Visigoth! What gets me is that some people think things don't happen or you are tooting your own horn or blowing smoke up thier _ _ _ unless they see it on TV or youtube every day or it happened to them. These people think that that part of our history never happened is my beleaf. But they didn't partisapate in the welcome home parade in Hollywood for the troops come home from Desert Storm and still have the antis trying to spit on us or still calling us Baby Killers, even as we where trying to honor and welcome home our Brave Troops, even after what happened to us when we came home. This is why I say with all my heart filt thanks "WELCOME HOME TO ALL MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS" that have put on the uniform and severed, and MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL. God Bless America and Our Troops Past Present and Future. Keeping to My Oath Locked Loaded and Keeping My Powder Dry. Get the US Out of the UN and the UN Out of the US Thank you. Thank you.
