(GunReports.com) Charter Arms has released the Pitbull, what it claims is the worlds first .40-caliber rimless revolver.
Built on the same 416 stainless-steel matte-finish frame as the Charter Arms .44 Special, the 5-shot Pitbull has a a rimless-cartridge extractor assembly. The dual-coil spring assembly located in the extractor allows the insertion, retention, and extraction of .40-caliber cartridges.
Charter Arms President Nick Ecker said the new system makes firing rimless cartridges in a revolver as easy as rimmed cartridges.
Ecker said, The Pitbull is the ideal revolver for law enforcement officers to use as their back up, because they can now carry a revolver that utilizes the same ammo as their sidearm. And for the .40 caliber enthusiast, it gives them the first revolver that shoots their ammo without utilizing moon clips.
MSRP is on this patent-pending revolver is $465.
It's about time someone built this revolver. Taurus built a 9mm, but I'm not sure how you unloaded it (never saw one). Charter Arms has been building revolvers a long time and I'll bet it works very well. I think the various Taurus 9mm wheelguns used moon clips. I'm waiting on the 9mm and 45acp versions as those are calibers I already keep on hand. I used the Charter .44 Spl. as a backup/concealed carry years ago. This addition will find its place in the market, and do well. CHARLES B..... If you are waiting for Taurus to field a .45 ACP revolver, they have. I own one that is their model 455 in stainless steel. It is a five shooter that uses moon clips, but it can be used without them.....if you have something with which to punch out the empty cases. It will not, however, permit the use of .45 Auto Rim ammo. It's a two inch snub that rides very nicely in the center console of one of my cars. Charter Arms has the best spurless hammer on the market. I have them on both a .44 Buldog, & a .38 Undercover. With no spur to hang up, but with the ability to fire single action, I do not understand why they are not standard on all their guns. Charter Arms manufactures quality firearms. I have been using them since 1974 when my wife and son gave me an Undercover 38 for Father's Day. This caliber will be a welcomed addition to their stellar lineup. Can't wait to see one!
