(GunReports.com) Colts has introduced a new version of the classic Colt Mustang chambered in 380 ACP.
Colts new .380 Mustang Pocketlite has an aluminum alloy receiver and stainless steel slide, both CNC machined from solid bar stock for precise tolerances.
The magazine holds six rounds. Improvements in powder and bullet design have increased the velocity and terminal performance of .380 caliber ammunition, adding to the viability of the Colt .380 Mustang Pocketlite for personal defense, said Joyce Rubino, Vice President of Marketing, Colts Manufacturing Company.
With a loaded magazine, this handgun weighs less than one pound. It measures 5.5 inches long and has a 2.75-inch barrel. The minimal weight and length of the gun, combined with the short single-action trigger, grip design, frame design and firing pin safety block, make this firearm ideal for personal protection, Rubino said.
Accuracy and reliability was a top priority as we looked at what improvements could be made to make this classic backup even better, said Rubino, Though the changes may seem subtle to the untrained eye, every Colt employee takes great pride in knowing that their dedication has helped bring a vastly improved and enhanced firearm to market.
I have an old 380 govt (the full sized 380) the gun was plagued with problems and was the pistol that made me swear off Colts. Finally got it running and it is a nice feeling pistol. - Is this one any better than the Sig?? I also am interested in how the Colt stacks up to the Sig. Has the student overtaken the master? I have a Sig 238 and I absolutely love it. I to, would be interested in a head to head test with the new Mustang. Wonder is Colt is having Sig make them? My guess would be YES!! I have had a Colt Mustang Plus II for several years. It is a delight to shoot. It shoots accurately and reliably. I'd like to see a re-release of the Colt Pony Pocketlite DAO model as well. As has been the usual case with anything labeled Colt, I'd expect that this pistol will be wildly overpriced. That said, if I was going to invest in something like this, I would rather Colt bring back the double action 9x19mm that they had several years ago. While the size of these little pistols might make them popular, I think that we'd be better served with something a bit more stout than .380. I've had good experiences with few Colt products I've owned. I also have a Colt Combat Commander .45 ACP that has also functioned flawlessly since I bought it. Over priced? Maybe. But I have no complaints about functionality. I had 2 Colt Gov't Model .380's, one blue and one stainless, that were flawless in function and accurate as well. It would be great to have Colt bring back that model! Please don't take my comment about Colts being overpriced as condemnation of the product. I own several Colt pistols and revolvers, and they are all quality products. Now, I know.....I know.....that we get what we pay for. I just think that when the name "Colt" gets stamped on the frame, barrel, or slide, the price automatically escalates a bit more than it probably should. It doesn't keep me from buying Colts, but it does get a bit annoying. Absolutely no offense. I know what ya mean. For what I spent on the Colt Commander, I'd have probably gotten better sights or ambidextrous safeties or some other feature on a similarly priced Kimber or Springfield Armory 1911. I just wanted a Colt 1911.
