Former U.S. Attorney Dennis Burke

AZ Republic:
F&F U.S. Att. Burke's Anti-Gun Past

January 30, 2012

Printer Friendly | Email |

(GunReports.com) -- The Arizona Republic has assembled a superb career recap of one of the main players of Fast and Furious, now-resigned U.S. Attorney Dennis K. Burke. Highlights from the story by Dennis Wagner:

"The career path of former U.S. Attorney Dennis Burke can be charted through an ascending string of jobs from Arizona's Supreme Court to the U.S. Senate, White House, Department of Homeland Security and Justice Department. It is a resume that spans more than two decades in three branches of government. Then, suddenly, it nose-dives on Aug. 30, 2011, when Burke resigned as U.S. attorney amid a scandal over a gun-smuggling case known as Operation Fast and Furious."

"In e-mail exchanges with DOJ officials, Burke incorrectly described allegations about Fast and Furious by Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, as 'categorically false.' He also reviled congressional investigators as 'stooges' for gun-rights zealots."

"But there are critics, especially among staunch Second Amendment advocates, who paint Burke as a liberal apparatchik who was willing to let criminals move weapons to Mexican cartels if it would help justify new firearms restrictions."

Is Burke being prosecuted? His resignation is not enough payment for the loss of a brave Border Agent

Yup! That's the whole crux of this scandal. That US government officials were perfectly willing to break the laws that they are sworn to uphold, is hideous on its face. That they did this in order to create a falsely induced need for onerous gun control legislation.....that included the death of US law enforcement personnel.....is criminal in the degree that all who were associated with this scandalous activity should be indicted and tried for criminal activity of the most ugly sort.

I, for one, am sick of these clowns in the legal system doing almost anything, except raping a nun in church, and never being prosecuted. There should be some high level prosecutions, no plea bargins and maybe an impeachment or two.

Let's hope he didn't get immunity for his testimony. He may be better of with some pen time. I'm sure the people of AZ know where he lives, and it would be a shame to read that someone had issued his own 'justice' on the guy. The law is slow, but law-abiding citizens should let it work to whatever end it will before doing anything else.

I think I meant 'instead of', rather than 'before'. Sorry.

Forgot to check the box for updates too. duh!

So, for Burke's supporters, who say he would never conduct this operation to fabricate support for gun control; then exactly why did he do it?

P V B - You're not expecting to find anyone on this forum to answer that question, are you?

PVB, clearly Mr. Burke is an honorable man (just like Brutus), he wouldn't conduct this operation to fabricate support for gun control. And anyone who says differently is 'categorically false' and a 'stooge [Moe, Curly, or Larry?] for gun-rights zealots.' Unfortunately there is a large portion of the American population who believes this tripe. I wonder if Mr. Burke would like to repeat this to Congress? Oh, that right, he can't. He's taken the 5th.

Anyone who reads the full article should do a google search for the reporter Don Bolles murder. Also this site: http://www.azcentral.com/specials/special01/0528bolles-arizonaproject.html

Then consider who is mentioned in some of these articles and google "Bonanno and DeConcini families" and just have fun. AZ Central is an excellent investigative group and the shady activities in Arizona involve so many people. Add John and Cindy McCain on google for more fun about the Arizona Project.

No David, I don't expect that answer here; I'm just sayin'...

Vis - Too many believe it, and too many just don't care.

There is no other conceivable reason for allowing TWO THOUSAND+ firearms to go over the boarder, NONE, other than to jury rig the statistics about US guns store sold firearms found in Mexican crime scenes. Any sting or trace could have been conducted with two or three dozen weapons. But to allow multiple thousands? Forget the money, follow the idiology!

Sounds to me like this bunch in Gov. forgot the Oath they took to defend the Constitution, of whitch includs the 2nd Amend. but can remember to take the 5th amendment when thir butts are on the line. What I see is the whole Darn bunch needs to be brought up on criminal charges for accessories to murder and treason for violating thier oath. The way I see it if you don't hold all the Constitution, then you can't use the 5th Amendment and you forfit all your rights. God Bless America and Our Troops Past Present and Future. Keeping to My Oath Locked Loaded and Keeping My Powder Dry. Get the US Out of the UN and the UN Out of the US

I'll stand with bear1 on this.

I agree with both bear1 and david b. Unfortunately, with the political landscape as it is, we'll be lucky to see some resignations. I am heartened, though, to see that Darrel Issa is moving ahead, and he will likely charge the principals in this case with Contempt of Congress. Of course the Obama administration is likely to shrug that off, but history reveals that Richard Nixon also tried to shrug off Contempt of Congress charges.

Like I said before. BO and Holder authorized this goat fU>k from the beginning. On 24 March 2009, David Ogden, The Assistant Deputy Attorney General, announced on C-Span2 the plan. See it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PNhYk9NuNc

Dennis Burke is an scape goat. We need to push this issue hard on the House of Reps. Rep Darell Issa, and you Rep need to hear from you. So doe's Senator Charles Grassley, and the butt-head Senator that is stooping this issue from moving forward in the Senate. That butt-head is Senator Pat Layhee (spelling). We can sit around and complain to each other, or we can do something about this. 1-202-224-3121 is the phone number to the Capital Switchboard. Call Layhee and complain.

As for Dennis (dummy) Burke, I'm sure Mexico would love to have him in their hands.
