I think someone should question Eric Holder

Has anybody thought of asking BATFE about this? Like, could this be another plot to undermine our Second Amendment rights by putting the FFLs in a bad light for not exercising proper security?

I would not be surprised a bit if BATFE was knocking off gun stores. Not a bit. They're already known to bust gun owners on technicalities or even false charges and confiscate the entire collection without ever returning them. I expect the next thing will be to do agency burglaries of gun-owner's homes, using staff safe-crackers to get into our gun cabinets when we're away - or even holding us at gun-point to do the job. The just won't have their ATF patches on their hats when they do it.

I'm not usually a conspiracy theory fan, but if the government was behind Gun Runner, and if Burke concocted the scheme to support his gun control agenda; then it isn't hard to imagine another overzealous, anti-gun political appointee actually staging this. (We know Gun Runner was government sanctioned, though Burke's motives we do not - we only know his track record. We also know gun running was previously tried, so the idea was not original.) I'd better go get my foil hat....

On the other hand, this covers 8 robberies or attempts, 5 of which resulted in guns being stolen, all in the "Houston area." I would find it helpful to know how this rate compares to the norm in Houston, and what else was stolen. (For example, in the pawn shop robberies did they just take guns, or a bunch of jewelry, too.)
