Georgia Senate Approves Suppressors for Hunting
February 6, 2012Printer Friendly | Email |
(GunReports.com) The Georgia Senate has approved legislation that would end the ban on silencers for hunting firearms. Senate Bill 301 was approved by a vote of 48-5.
The NRA has successfully pushed for similar legislation last year in Kansas, Louisiana, and Washington, and supports legalizing silencers in all 50 states.
Silencers are legal to possess and use for lawful purposes in most states, but require a federal permit from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
While this will be helpful in preserving the hearing of those hunters who are so equipped, I can't help but think that some of the romance of hearing the reports of guns in the woods, fields, and marshes will be lost. Next we need to do away with the Fed stamps!! Even in Uber Liberal Europe, they can buy suppressors like a magazine or holster. They SAVE shooters hearing. They only take care of the noise of the cartridge going off, not the loud crack of a supersonic bullet. They cut the report by 1/2 when using std. velocity ammo. To show how stupid our gun laws are, when a USA made rifle is shipped outside the USA, if equipped with muzzle break or threaded muzzle cap, it MUST be drilled, pinned & welded to the barrel ~ Per USA ITAR rules!! I agree- kill the "stamp" requirement. Here's an idea - lets kill all the gun restrictions and stamp requirements. Then take the recommended sentences for the infractions as they exist today, and make them mandatory sentence add-ons for anyone using those weapons in commission of a crime. There you go again Daivd, trying to be logical... Sorry P V B - Sometimes I just can't help myself, no matter how I try to control it.
