re: Hwy. 11 shutdown
Another travesty of justice - a full military assault style response to what - an apparently false claim (claimant himself later charged) of personal assault (no gun mentioned in the assualt claim according to the article) but simply because cops found out the alledged assailant was a gun owner. Dogs, machine guns and flash grenades? When they could have knocked on his door and asked him about the assault and arrested him?
WHAT the hell is with law enforcement lately? Do they have to pass a 'chicken-test' and be lily-livered to get a job, or is it a psychopath test they need to pass? I just don't understand the daily over-reactions.
re: concerned about concealed carry
I recommned reading the comments that follow the blog post. At least read the one that starts with "I am a retired CPD after 35 years of service. I have made many UUW arrests . I too was against concealed carry."

re: Matt Lundy
Good for the BFA! We need to out these reps, not matter what level they work at, as liars if they are. And not just out them as liars to the gun community - but to everyone. As the announcement says - if they lied about this to us, what did or will they lie to you about? This should happen in every state, every town, and to every liar.
re: CCW portrayed as a fringe issue
One thing I think we gun owners fail to stress enough is that even though no state that I know of REQUIRES it's citizens to own a gun, EVERYONE becomes safer when gun ownership is permitted and supported. Burglars and home invaders never know in advance if there is a gun on the other side of the door.
Concealed carry makes everyone out in public safer because the predators can never tell in advance which of their intended victims will turn out - at a range too close for any doubt about the predator's intentions, or for the 'victim' to miss - to have a gun and the training to use it effectively. Let gun owners carry them concealed, and EVERYBODY WINS! Except for the criminals that is.
Hey David - wasn't the LE over-reaction in Canada?
P V B - yes, it was. So what? It's not like the same overreaction isn't a daily occurence here in the states.... And, OK, maybe it's not my local LEOs (whom I do trust more than Feds), but when I'm assaulted at night, do I know it's not them but Feds? Heck no, I'd only know I'm suddenly under major attack by armed men. And - it wouldn't be Feds coming to arrest me over an assault charge.
It seems to me that it's a widely spread phenomenon in the western world - storm troopers and heavy assault vehicles being sent out to arrest ONE guy over some offense that often doesn't even carry a 'go to jail' penalty - just because he owns a gun or uses recreational drugs other than alcohol. I think it's a concern that they don't even TRY to make the arrest with one or two uniforms instead of an entire platoon. I'm even bothered by the fact that these days they can blow your door down without prior knocking or announcement.
Why? Well, I can buy door-buster loads readily. Which means local criminals can too. Am I supposed to wake up @ 3 a.m. with my door blasted off and NOT shoot just because the gangsters coming in to steal my stuff shout "Police!"? Hell, I'll shoot until I see badges on the bodies. Crooks are stupid sure, but they're still smart enough to catch on to the 'blow the door and shout Police' thing as a scam. 20 seconds later the entire famiily is disarmed and maybe dead. That trick might or might not work in my apartment complex, but out in the country where your neighbors are too far off to see if your 'visitors' are in uniforms or not - you're gonna be dead meat if you don't shoot back immediately.
I agree with you - I was just sayin'...
There are plenty of instances though where the cops DO try to make the arrest with minimal support, knowing they are going after someone already a con, and the cop gets shot.
P V B - I know about the problems cops face - two in the family now and a son-in-law who's trying to get hired. These guys I'd trust to arrest me and not screw me over.
But the courts give a presumption of truth in all cases to a cop - seemingly at times even in the face of contrary evidence. So given the presumption of truth and 'right action', the guy with the badge has a huge advantage over the rest of us - even if he over-reacts and kills or maims citizens over petty stuff - how many Taser deaths have been punished? There's supposed to be over 350 in the last 10 years. How many cops got more than time off with pay for THOSE deaths?
If they're going after a guy with a record, maybe take a few extra officers. But you or me with NO record of anything but traffic violations? We both know they check that stuff before they come out after anyone. What's the SWAT team and helicopter for - because they want a chance to wear their fancy gear? Hell, if I'm 60+ and haven't been arrested (both true) for something yet, why think I'm suddenly going to shoot a cop? Just come to the house and arrest me, dammit. What if one of the kids runs out of the bedroom after daddy starts shooting the home invaders? She's likely gonna be shot too.
So making the mistake of busting in my door in the wee hours will probably get someone killed unnecessarily - and I'd likely be one of them, but maybe not the only. It's a bad decision to come in like that unless it's known for certain that there will be shooting in the event of a more normal approach. E.g. busting a meth lab is pretty sure to get some shooting going, so don't go alone. But a residence? Nah, I don't buy it.
I agree, I agree. As long as urban elitists are allowed to portray you and me as lunatic-fringe 2nd Amendment freaks, I don't expect any of that to change though.
