Understanding the Not-So-Simple Drill Bit

They may be familiar to some, but not every gunsmith knows the ins and outs of drill bits. Here are the basics.

Repairing the L.C. Smith Hammerless Double

The graceful, light, and distinctive L.C. Smith Hammerless Double sidelock is a favorite of American shotgunners. Here’s how to fix its most common problems. If you own a Smith and want to make it suitable to shoot again, or if you are presented a Smith to repair, here’s what you need to know about the shotgun.

SHOT Show Video: Two Big-Hole Wheelguns from Kahr Arms

In June 2010, Kahr Arms purchased Minnesota-based firearms manufacturer, Magnum Research, Inc., maker of the Desert Eagle Pistol and BFR Revolvers in .44 Magnum, .45 LC/.410 or .45/70. Kahr Arms offers a selection of other niche-type firearms, such as the “Tommy Gun” and Auto-Ordnance line of M1 .30 caliber carbines. In this video, Gun Tests Contributing Editor Roger Eckstine shows off two of the company’s big-hole BFR wheelguns.

SHOT Show Video: Easy Disassembly for the Modular Beretta Nano

Beretta USA introduced the BU-9 Nano as its entry into the pocket 9mm pistol category last September. Initial shipments of the American-made pistol left the Accokeek, Maryland factory beginning in November 2011, with a suggested retail price of $475. In this video, Gun Tests’ Contributing Editor Roger Eckstine gets a detailed explanation of how easy the Nano is to break down for maintenance. The Nano's modularity provides for simple disassembly and easy cleaning. Safely disassemble the pistol by first engaging the striker deactivator, a patent pending safety mechanism that eliminates the need to pull the trigger prior to disassembly.

U.S. Senate Confirms Anti-gun Radical to the Supreme Court

August 11, 2010

Printer Friendly | Email |

(GunReports.com) -- From the Gun Owners of America:

"After reviewing Ms. Kagan's record and testimony at her confirmation hearing, the GUN OWNERS OF AMERICA concluded that, 'The available evidence portrays her as a forceful advocate of restrictive gun laws and driven by political considerations rather than rule of law.'" -- Sen. John Thune (R-SD), August 5, 2010.

Senator Thune quoted GOA accurately. Elena Kagan is going to be a disaster on the Supreme Court.

Our gun rights are hanging by a thread. Prior to the vote in the U.S. Senate today, Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama sounded the alarm: "Most Americans are totally unaware [that] the Second Amendment hangs by a mere thread [by] two 5-4 decisions recently...."

He was referring, of course, to the two gun-related decisions over the past couple of years where the Supreme Court narrowly ruled in favor of gun rights.

With this in mind, several Senators spent almost an hour today talking exclusively about the Second Amendment, its importance to all Americans across the country, and the danger that President Obama's most recent pick to the U.S. Supreme Court poses to our gun rights.

Sadly, the Senate today voted 63-37 to confirm Elena Kagan to the U.S. Supreme Court. Senators who voted for Elena Kagan cannot claim ignorance. They voted anti-gun, and we need to let them know that we, the American people, are coming to take back our government on Election Day.

While I did make certain that our two senators from Texas, John Cornyn and Kay Hutchison, were adequately apprised of Texans' dislike of Kagan, I needn't have worried too much. Both of our senators voted "NO" on Kagan's confirmation.

Yes, need to vote for pro gun people, more important then ever.

I dislike McCain, but those that withheld their vote really made a mess of things. I dare say that McCain's selections would have to be better than what we got now.

Mister E - agreed. I am still amazed at the number of typically conservative people I know who voted for Obama because they hated Bush.

An interesting comment by PVB..... Hate, in and of itself, is one of the most negative, useless emotions extant. Many years ago, I made a decision to avoid that emotion. My main point of reason is that hate is such an overwhelmingly negative thing that it must require much more energy than any other emotion. With that concept always in mind, I have refused to expend that much energy on something that is so wasteful. I am not putting myself up as a paragon of love, by any stretch of the imagination, but I do believe that if more people thought of hate as a terrible waste of energy, a lot of our problems might be avoided.

PVB's case in point is a stellar example of how negative hate can be. While I was somewhat disappointed in George Bush's presidency, it never entered my mind to desert all vestiges of sanity and vote for Obama.

I am working toward that wastefulness with the current Congress. My, oh my, Kagan tops it off! What next?

Sharps - I hope the answer to your question is throw dem bums out. (like the pun?) I fear there is plenty of time for Obamanation to answer otherwise.

Good pun PVB. But isn't the reason we got dem bums to worry about now because the other folks managed to screw the pooch so badly? It seems that no one ((who can get elected) is looking out for the interests and concerns of the citizens of this country.

Vis - you are correct. Career politicians are not looking out for nor in "our" best interests.
