The Left’s War on the Second Amendment
Continues as Gun Sales Skyrocket

December 26, 2011

(GunReports.com) -- David Wohl, writing on BigGovernment.com, had some interesting insights on recent record-gun sales figures:

Walk into your local gun shop and you’re likely to be greeted by some of the hardest working salesmen and women in America. On Black Friday alone gun dealers flooded the FBI with background check requests for prospective hand gun and long gun buyers, smashing the previous record by more than 30%. Deputy Assistant FBI Director Jerry Pender said the checks, required by federal law, surged to nearly 130,000 during the day, far surpassing the previous high of 97,848 on Black Friday of 2008. The actual number of firearms sold is likely much higher because multiple firearms can be included in a transaction by a single buyer. The FBI does not track actual gun sales.

Gun buyers are more diverse than ever. This however is not the kind of diversity the anti-gun left is happy about. Young professionals, people starting families and women, in greater numbers than ever, are purchasing guns. Dennis Henigan, acting president of the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, said he was “skeptical” of the Black Friday gun surge.

Refusing to accept the reality of the trend, he said “I think there may be no real significance at all.” This of course is the same Brady Center that that in the face of gun violence, has focused its efforts on restricting law abiding citizens’ access to guns, rather than campaigning for tougher penalties against criminals who use guns in crimes.

That is the problem with liberals and the Brady Bunch. Facts mean nothing to them because they are so shallow in their thinking that they are unable to understand statistics!

That's right, Mr. Henigan, put your fingers in your ears and close your eyes and reality simply melts away. When confronted with the truth that contradicts one's unfounded beliefs, deny it. Then deny it again and again and again until someone finally believes your big lie.

Its interesting that those background checks were all done on Black Friday. Presumably most of those guns were being bought as gifts to other folks. Most states have few restrictions (or at least that is my understanding) on transfers or record-keeping for transfers of long guns. And we've all heard that your pistol's main purpose is to make the other guy duck while you get to your rifle. So this is an indicator of a potentially big headache for the gun-grabber treaty loving UN-teat suckers.

A bad day for gun control is a good day for Freedom.

This week here in Colorado, a five year old girl was playing in her parents bedroom with her dads .45 cal. pistol, they didn't know she was doing that untill it went off. It is incidents like that, that set the liberals off, as gun owners we have a lot of responsibility to see that the liberals don't get any oppertunities to use incidents like that against us. Reports of how many guns were sold in this state were put right along side this story, which story is going to be used against gun owners? The story about the little girl has been told many times, I only heard about the gun sales once. We can and we need to do better about safety, no matter how much it is stressed, there is still always an isolated incident that makes more headlines. Keep safe. BTW, I was one of those buyers.

Incidents like this one described by Vernon are tragic. They are also used by anti-Second Amendment proponents as "typical" of what happens when people own guns. It is useless to try to explain that the father was not what we would consider a "responsible gun owner," because he allowed (even once) his pistol to be accessible to a 5 year old. Fortunately, such incidents are rare.

Of course Dennis Henigan is skeptical. He is skeptical of basics like the truth and reality. Doesn't understand them at all.

How many kids die when playing with toys? Bet it's a lot more than playing with guns. That's not to say that a child's death is not a tragedy. But to use a statistical fluke for policy is absurd. Accidents happen. Laws cannot prevent them, or they would be no more.

Our biggest problem is that the little girl in Colorado will make the news now, but if she'd shot a home invader while mom was in the shower, it wouldn't. We are as much to blame for those stories not making the news as we are to blame when it's our own gun that 'goes off' in cases like this.

Speaking of toys killing kids, how many kids have died because of toys coming from China? A new way to attack Americans?

Reality Check re Black Friday Sales. Here in the Peoples' Republick of Kalifornia, gun retailers were having the same kind of sales as every other retailer in the state. Ruger revolvers in 357 magnum were typically $50 off which is probably the profit in the gun, but all the rest of the accessory stuff was piled high and even at 20% discount during the sale was where the annual profit was made. Gun retailers are no longer mom and pop stores with little marketing savy. Today outfits like Turners (11 stores in So. Cal.) produce slick color sale brochures timed for Black Friday and have email systems second to none. I'm sure Turners (as does Wal-Mart) beat up on vendors until they get the prices they want, then they buy hundreds of guns at a time. If Ruger won't play, there's plenty of other revolver makers that would be happy to sell a thousand guns at a time and in time for Black Friday. All this as the econommy continues to decay. People are starting to wake up and ask themselves what will happen if un-employment benefits end and enough folks get desparate enough to go to extremes to support their families. If anarchy starts, ammo and guns will be harder to get then they were for two years after Obama got elected. Have we forgotten the ammo shortage in the USA for two years after he got in?

It is common knowledge that news media get much more circulation based on negative news than on positive news. As one of the contributors above noted, if we Second Amendment adherents took the initiative in reporting positive aspects of gun ownership to the media, perhaps we could balance the news to the extent that more might be reported that concerns the benefits of gun ownership. Most newspapers have websites, and I believe that most broadcast networks also have them, where we can report every positive news item, concerning firearms ownership, might be displayed. This might provide a more balance approach to the news.

I am so sick of the lack of honor, integrity, standards and ethics that the left has. These are cry babies who consistently lie, cheat or do anything corrupt to get their way. The good thing is statistics show way more people than not know just how pathetic the left is. I can also state that no matter who the left has in government on their side they will not tell the people of our nation what they'll do and not do. Government works for the people not the people working for the government.

canovac, my experience with news media comment boards is this, they own the comment board, they pick what goes on it.

Regrettably, Vernon R, you are probably correct. I'd guess that I am guilty of projecting my experiences, with a home town Texas newspaper, into the national media scene.

Well I keep trying to do my share on the increase of sales on both guns and ammo, and teaching on how to use the gun in a safe manner. God Bless America and Our Troops Past Present and Future. Keeping to My Oath Locked Loaded and Keeping My Powder Dry. Get the US Out of the UN and the UN Out of the US
