Many Factors Explain 'Black Friday'
Gun-Buying Surge, Says CCRKBA

(GunReports.com) -- While some people are struggling to explain a gun buying surge reported on "Black Friday," the day after Thanksgiving, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms suggests there are several plausible explanations, all reflecting the times in which we live.
"Despite claims to the contrary," observed CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, "for many American citizens, the economy remains unstable, and the outlook for tomorrow is very uncertain. We've seen public safety budgets hacked to shreds by state and local governments that have spent themselves into near bankruptcy. Our streets, parks and state capitol buildings have been occupied by anarchists. Europe appears on the verge of financial collapse. Congress is unable to resolve our budget crisis.
"And on top of that," he added, "we've got a spectator president who always seems to be waiting for someone else to take action, perhaps because he wants someone else to blame for another plan that doesn't work. Why is it any surprise that American citizens, including many for the first time, are buying firearms and ammunition?"
USA Today reported that the FBI's National Instant Check center logged more than 129,000 background check requests last Friday, a new record surpassing the 97,848 checks conducted on Black Friday in 2008. The National Shooting Sports Foundation credits much of the buying to the realization by increasing numbers of citizens that they have a constitutional right to own guns. Also, more women are getting involved in shooting sports, including hunting, and more are carrying firearms for personal protection.
"Americans hope for the best," Gottlieb said, "but they prepare for the worst. Some call that 'panic' but in reality, it is prudence. While there are some small signs of improvement, there remains a vast landscape of uncertainty. Sensible people have evidently concluded that it is better to have a gun and not need it, than to need a gun and not have it."
OK, well, I agree with the last paragraph. But the 2nd and 3rd not so much. Gottleib sounds like a shill for the GOP 'get Obama if it kills the nation' agenda. So here's my thoughts on WHY there may have been a Black Friday surge in gun sales: 1) For obvious reasons - some of them stated by Gottleib in the second paragraph - more people wanted guns for Christmas this year than thru most of our history. 2) This is the first year I recall seeing gun dealers offering Black Friday deals, so maybe those were attractive enough to potential buyers to get them to the stores. 3) If you're blowing all day shopping anyway, and your honey wants a new pink pistol, or he wants a black shotgun, you might as well pick it up while you're out, right? 4) ATF, DEA & FBI hijinks, cutbacks in local law enforcement budgets and staff, fear of crime, fear of paramilitary cop attacks, fear of economic collapse, fear of finding oneself living under a bridge without a gun, world financial collapse seems imminent, protecting your stockpile of food and such, oil price increases indicate the supply really is running out, AND, protecting your own hiney and those of your spouse and kids. 5) Worries about the UN Small Arms Treaty and what the current administration will do about that and what it IS doing about pushing the anti-gun agenda. Hey, david b, I've been absent from the forum for awhile, due to some travels to visit one of my sons and his family in El Paso. Also, it seems that the GunReports webmaster has taken some steps to cut down on the spurious posts we've been seeing that are coming in from a variety of sources.....I had to resubscribe my user ID and password to regain access to the forum. Maybe folks are looking for items made in the USA. Welcome back canovack, I had to do the same thing. I do know one thing, I went down to pick up my over and under Savage 22 top 20ga under, this last week and almost all his display cases where almost emty and he was trying to get 2 speacal orders loged in and 2 more orders out to his suppliers. While I was there 4 women were buying and a Dad was doing the paper work buying two of his daughters .22-.22mag revolvers and looking for his 3rd daughter a good .22 rifle all in thier teens. His youngest was a Bronz medal shooter and next to her a silver medal shooter in thier age groups. that even made me proud of them. Also ammo was selling by the cases. So today I called my brother and he said he couldn't even get in the parking lot let alone the gun store he dose business with. And thats here in CommiMexifornia. Again clad your back canovack!!!! God Bless America and Our Troops Past Present and Future. Keeping to My Oath Locked Loaded and Keeping My Powder Dry. Get the US Out of the UN and the UN Out of the US It warms my heart to see people out buying firearms and ammunition. I missed a gun show this week end, but I figure I'll make up for it next weekend, since we have one in Belton and another in Austin. Last show I was at, last month, I picked up one of the Kel-Tec PMR30 pistols. It's .22WMR and it came with two 30-round mags. It's very lightweight, and it looks like a toy.....even more so than the M16 did when it first came out. David B: I have no knowlege about"black friday" but I have been accumulating guns and ammo for years. I think we may have to be prepared for some serious BS to come. I'm not a "sky is falling" type but I do think it is entirely plausible that one may have to defend one's food and possessions at some point if our Gov't doesn't get their head out of their ASS! Make no mistake, If Omama firmly bilieved he could destroy the 2nd amendment he would do it in a heart-beat. We cannot have this POS appoint another flaming socialist to the Supreme court. This would be a 5-4 court and I can just about gurantee you, old Holdem would have a case in front of it to turn 2nd into a militia only gun ownership instead of citizen right. The moment if that happens, what will that POS do? So if you can afford buy all you can, be it ammo, guns, reloading gear, bullets or what ever. Be prepared This POS is a real snake.
