Ridiculous News Item of the Week:
NJ Toy-Gun Buy Back

August 22, 2011

Printer Friendly | Email |

(GunReports.com) — A New Jersey anti-violence group tried to buy up children's toy guns to reduce Newark's record setting summer shootings.

Newark-based group Stop Shootin' Inc. held a toy gun exchange program this week. They asked children to bring in their toy guns, water pistols or cap guns and exchange them for a positive toy or a book.

Newark City Councilman Ras Baraka says more children and teenagers die each year from gunfire than from cancer, the flu, HIV/AIDS or other causes combined.

He did not comment on how many children died from being shot with toy guns.

As Mrs. Gump used to say, "Stupid is as stupid does."

'cause toy guns are so dangerous.... I can't believe the proponents of ideas like this are not the laughing stock of their area.

And Mrs. Gump was a smart woman!

I hope the kids sold them a lot of sticks. Bang! Bang!

Isn't it just like a totalitarian government to come up with a name "Gun Buyback". The very term belies how inflated are the egoes of the government stiffs who think up such things. How can a government agency buy something back that they never owned to begin with? And.....now they come along and want to purchase toys that they never owned. This is just one more example of what small minds are operating in government agencies to whom we are supposed to entrust things like our safety and well being.....

I wonder if agencies conducting "buy backs" could be prosecuted or sued for not doing BATFE paperwork for the "transfer" of the firearm?

It's NJ, why am I not surprised.

Well, I did want to say something about what a stupid idea this is, but then, I only speak 3 languages and just don't have the vocabulary to express this level of assinine thinking.

I will say I'd buy a few pot-metal pistols and such if I could ever remember when I'm near Goodwill. My plan is to bury them all over the yard so that in case I am ever a target for 'enforcement' I can at least have a good laugh at them digging their asses off to find all my cap guns. I'd even bury them in zip-lock freezer bags just to be sure they don't rust away!

Only problem, david b, is that those cap guns are getting to the point where they are worth some good money. If I still had all the really neat, realistic toy guns I had from my kid years in the 40s and 50s, I'd have some extra bucks to use in pursuit of some the of lovely items after which I now thirst (I mean guns).

I really DO wonder just how many kids die from being shot with a toy gun. I also wonder if the kids big brothers wait until their little brothers are at least 10 before giving them a Mac 10 or an AK for their first drive by. I am sure someone has those stats available. NJ sucks!

Wonder if I can trade my old leaky super-soaker (a really big gun) for a copy of the Anarchist's Cookbook? And, David, "asinine" is the perfect word to describe this ludicrous program. It is not only thoroughly descriptive but onomatopoetic as well. Yes, I had to look up the spelling.

Wait-whaaa? enema-poetic? Damn Vis - that's a Hell of an education you paid for!

NJ must be listening to Piglousi,Boxer, Fienstienshit, Watersmouth, and Waxman, and some others from PRC, commieforia repulic of. Sure wish I had some of my old cap guns and cork guns I had as a kid, could make some good money for that Mini 30 or M14 style I want. God Bless America and Our Troops Past Present and Future' Keeping to My Oath Locked Loaded and Keeping My Powder Dry. Get the US Out of the UN and the UN Out of the US

Don't believe the UN has anything to do with the asinine "buyback" the state of New Jersey has initiated. Do you actually know where & why that saying came to be, or are you just repeating it to show your 'patriotism'?

Actually, PVB, that one comes from public high school English (non-honors) class. Back in the day (can't remember if we were using a stylus on clay or if we had transitioned to wax) one could actually get a pretty fair education. Now our dear Gov. Moonbeam has signed into law--get this--mandatory gay/lesbian history. Meanwhile, we keep pricing middle class kids out of state colleges and universities. Morons.

In another post, I had offered my condolences to bear1 on the loss of his mother, and I repeat those sentiments here. That said, perhaps all of us free people who enjoy residence in places other than California should also take a moment to reflect on how fortunate we are. So, to all of our brethren who continue to languish in the PRC, our prayers go with you as you withstand still another bit of totalitarian idiocy.

Now, having said all of that above, it suddenly occurs to my fading mental acuity that this particular article concerns New Jersey.....not California. So dear brothers in arms, wherever you my be enduring the totalitarian lunacy of state government that denies your fundamental rights, I deeply regret your situation and I salute your fortitude in your fight for liberty.

Aaww hell! This damned keyboard keeps acting up.....even when I use the spell check program.

To Myk9noseKnows, I say get out of the UN because it is the most corrupt bunch of idiots in the world. As a peace keeping force they will sit back and watch inacent unarmed people get slottered, they give dictators money for thier people that never gets to the people, but most of all the UN wants to take Our Second Amendment Rights away from us under the illusion of the small arms treaty. For some proof just look at the food for oil deal with Iraq as one of the latest bundogals. Also to show my patriotism, sence I am a disabled Vietnam Veteran. God Bless America and Our Troops Past Present and Future. Keeping to My Oath Locked Loaded and Keeping My Powder Dry, Get the US Out of the UN and the UN out of the US.

Vis - stylus on clay - lol!!

Canovack - well said, and polite. Sorry, but I'm about to be not so polite...

k9nose - In case you didn't pick up on what I suspect was a subtle hint from canovack, it's better to keep you're "mouth" shut and let everybody think you're an idiot than to open it and remove all doubt. Bear1 is a regular contributor and always signs off that way. Next time, test the waters before you jump in.

Watch out for those toy guns they may cause a child using them to have fun. It would be better if this same city council would have a good Police Department by replacing the 40% they laid off. Then those Officers could help reduce the amount of shootings. Not to call that council man a liar but if he would deduct the amount of shootings the gangs commit each year the numbers would drop. Those scumbags should not have guns anyway. Of course you need Police Officers to go after the gang members. Newark does not believe in having enough Officers so the gangs shoot each other and innocent civilians. Do your job councilman and hire Officers to clean up your trash.

This is the most idiotic mindset that our nation has ever witnessed. I am not surprised by New Jersey, New York and the few others who seem to follow this liberal mindset. This is a group of radical people who are mentally sick thinking they know all the facts of life. It only takes looking at the FBI statistics of the effects of law abiding citizens carrying concealed yet these sick few refuse to see the truth. The silent majority better start making some noise and stop this liberal mindset that will only get law abiding people killed.

simondcat, It's not a "liberal mindset", it's a liberal way of life that enables a few politicians to make decisions for everyone. Liberalism is being promoted due to the conservative's (silent majority) apathy. If the Obamanation continues in 2012, do yourself a favor and invest in canned goods and ammo.

I work with Stop Shootin. So many critics out here with all of your free time to bitch and complain about someone trying to make a difference. Do you guys do anything, or do you just sit around and complain? Just wondering.

To lunarose: Obviously then you're no better than anyone else here. You're doing the same thing only from the liberal side. Why don't you go troll somewhere else. Make a difference? If you check the laws these buybacks are being done illegally, but you wouldn't know that since you never bothered to check and just like to throw out nasty comments as a response, typical liberal.

Gary Darrar, Retired NJ Police Officer.

OK, lunarose, I haven't seen your posts in this forum at anytime in the past, and I have been posting here for several years. Firstly: Those who regularly post here, are not just sitting around complaining.....we are all politically active and are in regular communication with our elected representatives at the national, state, and local level. We also contribute financially to most, if not all, pro-Second Amendment political action groups and lobbies. Secondly: I am not familiar with "Stop Shootin". It sounds like some sort of anti-Second Amendment group that seeks so-called "reasonable solutions" to problems that don't exist, all in the quest to restrict our Second Amendment rights, ultimately leading to confiscation of all firearms. Thirdly: Many of us are fairly along in years, so we are likely retired and thereby have earned our "free time". Personally, I am a 71 year-old retired Army lieutenant colonel and combat veteran who served for 21 years. When I retired from the Army in 1984, I became a public school educator/administrator, serving in that capacity for 22 years. My total time of public service, therefore, amounts to some 43 years. Fourthly: Most who post here have resumes similar to mine, so we have walked the walked and know of what we speak when we talk the talk.
