They may be familiar to some, but not every gunsmith knows the ins and outs of drill bits. Here are the basics.

Repairing the L.C. Smith Hammerless Double

The graceful, light, and distinctive L.C. Smith Hammerless Double sidelock is a favorite of American shotgunners. Here’s how to fix its most common problems. If you own a Smith and want to make it suitable to shoot again, or if you are presented a Smith to repair, here’s what you need to know about the shotgun.

SHOT Show Video: Two Big-Hole Wheelguns from Kahr Arms

In June 2010, Kahr Arms purchased Minnesota-based firearms manufacturer, Magnum Research, Inc., maker of the Desert Eagle Pistol and BFR Revolvers in .44 Magnum, .45 LC/.410 or .45/70. Kahr Arms offers a selection of other niche-type firearms, such as the “Tommy Gun” and Auto-Ordnance line of M1 .30 caliber carbines. In this video, Gun Tests Contributing Editor Roger Eckstine shows off two of the company’s big-hole BFR wheelguns.

SHOT Show Video: Easy Disassembly for the Modular Beretta Nano

Beretta USA introduced the BU-9 Nano as its entry into the pocket 9mm pistol category last September. Initial shipments of the American-made pistol left the Accokeek, Maryland factory beginning in November 2011, with a suggested retail price of $475. In this video, Gun Tests’ Contributing Editor Roger Eckstine gets a detailed explanation of how easy the Nano is to break down for maintenance. The Nano's modularity provides for simple disassembly and easy cleaning. Safely disassemble the pistol by first engaging the striker deactivator, a patent pending safety mechanism that eliminates the need to pull the trigger prior to disassembly.

NPR Story: More Candidates Hunting For Votes With Guns

September 1, 2010

Printer Friendly | Email |

(GunReports.com) -- A recent NPR story notes that many current political ads picture candidates with firearms, then snarkily remarks, "Well, it is a scary world. And voters are looking for can-do leaders who can solve complex problems easily. But there is the question of whether a parade of politicians pictured with guns makes us feel safer, or even more frightened."

According to NPR, "the locked-and-loaded list" includes:

  • Jesse Kelly, a Republican candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives from Arizona, using a semiauto rifle in his political ads.
  • Russ Carnahan, a Democratic congressman from Missouri, being pictured pointing a pistol at a target.
  • Christina Jeffrey, a Tea Party congressional candidate — and grandmother — who lost in the June primary in South Carolina, can still be found on YouTube brandishing an AK-47.
  • Pamela Gorman, a Republican candidate for congress in Arizona, has made an Internet ad featuring her firing a variety of different guns. She's a "conservative Christian and a pretty fair shot," the narrator says.

Brings new meaning to "dress to impress."

Remember how John Kerry suppossedly went hunting and either Clinton and or Gore lied to us as being with "us". These politicians will stop at nothing to get votes. We need to stay informed as to which are sincere and those who do lie and either vote them out or not vote them in.

Hell I might just move to AZ so I can vote for Pamela Gorman. Any babe who can light off rounds from that many different weapons in a 43 second video gets my vote.

Damn! I wish I had a politician like those mentioned to vote for come November.

Good for them. When more of our wannabe leaders support self defense for citizens, we'll find crime dropping rapidly, acceptance of weapons climbing dramatically, and society a lot more polite.

While it is interesting to see an open affection for firearms being expressed by political candidates, before we all flock to their side in support for them, it is wise to take a good, hard look at their records, attitudes, and statements concerning Second Amendment issues.

We should not forget the photo ops of such pols as John Kerry, Chet Edwards, and Joe Biden. They have all posed with their fancy shotguns, but their records all spoke clearly of disdain for our Second Amendment rights.

Beware of the long term liberals who suddenly appear to embrace our Second Amendment rights. Who knows, we may even see a photo of a fine tactical rifle in the hands of Nancy Pelosi or Michael Bloomberg. Those who are truly with us won't need to have their pictures taken with firearms.....so, beware of those prostitutes who will do anything to get elected.

Very well said canovack! Didn't Hillary try to pass herself off as a childhood pheasant hunter during her bid to take the presidency?

I believe you are right, PVB. Hillary and several other liberals have tried that trick. Who knows, we might even see a photo of Barrack Obama in a military uniform engaging enemy soldiers with an M4 carbine! I believe, however, that I'd rather take my chances and go on a hunting trip with Dick Cheney!

Hopefully, Barack doesn't think WE are enemy soldiers! ;)

It's hard telling what Mr Obama thinks, since he so often changes his position on issues. One thing we DO KNOW, however, is that his Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, thinks that if one is a veteran, is a conservative, and owns firearms.....that person is a potential terrorist.

How long will it take until people stop trusting politicians, period? Yes, by default I would vote for a pro-gun platform; but both parties leave so much to be desired. Nevertheless I'd take Gorman.
