Obama to Reintroduce Assault Weapons Ban

WASHINGTON, Feb. 25, 2009--Attorney General Eric Holder today said the Obama administration will seek to ban legal imported semi-auto rifles and erroneously named "cop killer" bullets.

"As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons."

The vast majority of Americans support the Second Amendment and are against "gun control". The last time the Democrats ran on an anti-gun platform it cost them the election. They never seem to learn. If the President goes along with it this time he will be a one-term President and the Democrats will lose control of Congress. A lot of people in this country are totally disgusted with what has (and has not) been going on in our government. They are not in the mood to put up with much BS from Congress or the administration, and I don't believe they will allow them to violate the Second Amendment. I am perfectly willing to reserve judgement until I see what the President intends to do, but I believe he needs the help of all the people in order to accomplish his goals. If he decides to push an anti-gun agenda he will alienate the very people he needs to support him and will almost certainly lose any chance of a second term.

Here in Southern California it seems I am surrounded by apathy on important issues. Free Speech, and the right to bear arms, among them. Especially in Los Angeles, where the mayor that would rather illegal aliens and gang members have the rights! Getting heard if you’re a legal citizen is difficult here in California. I will keep calling, and e-mailing all representatives from the White House to the local representatives. Lou Dobbs is a good source for this wherever you live. I do strongly suggest that all who value the first and second amendments keep letting all the representatives know how you feel!!!

My dad used to make a comment about 'closing the barn door, after the horses got out'. Thats my feeling about gun folks who voted for Bam-Bam & now are stressing! Its' been said above, but I'm no kid either. I have fought the fight for decades. When the "sunset" set on capacity, imports, etc.; an awful lot of folks breathed a sigh of relief in the belief that the war had been won. I think Gaviota was being realistic in his assessment. The economy will show improvement, Health Care will be improved upon and there will be improvement in the Housing Sector, therefore, Obama will most likely be re-elected for a second term. I believe the second term is where we will need to monitor this administration's movement towards gun restrictions.

Don't get me wrong, but i am very pro-gun, but only for those who "Deserve" this American right. It is a shame that there are those out there, who cannot even begin to fathom the responsibilities of owning a firearm, that are ruining it for the rest of us. Everyone who has ever been around others target practicing or hunting or whatever, know that there are those who shouldn't handle a firearm without constant supervision. This is true and you all know it. At the same time; there are many people who have either grown up around guns and "Deserve" to be able to buy, shoot, hunt and carry concealed and there are those who are just flat out competent enough to understand the responsibility of a firearm and "Deserve" the right too. A ban will not help anything, it just pisses off the hardworking, taxpaying people who should be allowed to buy a gun(even if it has a thirty round clip and a pistol grip). If anything, there should be an indepth test gun buyers should take before being able to purchase a firearm. Even a test for each catagory of firearm: pistol, rifle, shotgun, etc. Its a shame, and this goes with many things, that theres always someone out there to ruin it for the rest of us.
