(GunReports.com) -- As Cabela's Inc. prepares the selection of guns it will sell for the holiday season and winter hunting, the outdoor-gear retailer has two plans: one if President Barack Obama is re-elected, and one if he isnt, the Wall Street Journal reports.
The Sidney, Neb.-based retailer and other companies in the guns-and-ammo business say if Mr. Obama wins a second term they are preparing for a surge in salesthe same as they saw after he was elected in 2008from buyers fearful the president would back policies to make buying a gun more difficult.
If Republican challenger Mitt Romney wins, though, the chain plans to stock more items such as waterproof boots and camouflage hunting gear.
"If Mitt Romney is elected and there's no perceived threat on the freedom to own guns, people might decide to spend disposable income on things like outerwear instead," said Joe Arterburn, a Cabela's spokesman.
Cabela's, Bass Pro Shops, Smith & Wesson Holding Corp., and Olin Corp., the maker of Winchester bullets, are anticipating another bump in sales this winter if President Obama is re-elected.

If BHO is re-elected, I suspect we will continue to see an upsurge in firearms and ammo sales. That said, however, I still believe that we will see a steady flow of sales no matter if Romney wins. A number of people, myself included, have taken the attitude that firearms and ammunition may be quite valuable commodities to possess in quantity, much the same way as precious metals are currently viewed. waiting could be to late he is going to outlaw all guns and I think he is up to something Guns, ammo, and canned foods to stock your hidden storm shelter are just plain prudent. If BHO gets re-elected it may be time to re-up! We need a couple divisions at the southern border just to seperate the good ,the bad, and the ugly. I did the gun buying thing last time around. this time my focus will be on reloading supplies. So far this year I'm well on the way to having 1000 rounds on hand for each caliber. Sounds like another excuse to artificially inflate the prices of ammo and firearms yet again. Just like last time. Before 2008 a 500 round bulk pack of .22's were around $8 - $9. Now they're around $20 or more with NO valid excuse. What's the next step? $50? It's all corporate BS. "The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil constitution are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men." - Samuel Adams, 1771. Better get you some ammunition that is easier to ban and will make great currency when the dollar collapses in October. It will be; come as you are. Yep, To steal a phrase from "The Terminator", theres a storm brewing. All that training we recieved in uniform is going to come in handy, no matter how far back it was. My reaction time is a tad slower but the lessons learned are still fresh. bho is out to bring this country to its knees, so get out and VOTE!! I've spent most of my adult life making sure I and my family would be safe in any event that may occur. One just needs to keep up with what is going on and adjust accordingly, just as I did after 9-11. When someone decided to bring the fight home, I stepped up the defense and have continued since. I'm not going to stop now. The threat is among us daily we must all watch for the signs as it will grow and rise up. We can defend our home if we stay prepared and resolute. That's what deterred the Japanese from an invasion of the West Coast.....being prepared and resolute. Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto studied in the USA, and he knew that lots of American civilians owned, and knew how to use, firearms. Wow,that myth about Yamamoto will never die. Go to "MIsquoting Yamamoto" @ factcheck.org please. Well Ladies and Genlemen, I have been stocking up where ever I can on guns, ammo, food and water and hoping that this so called clown obeyme doesn't get in again but we also have some bad news out there that the LSM isn't talking about and that includs FOX NEWS and that is the UN past the Small Arms Treaty in the last few days. So now we also have it to worry about again with this admen.in office and old herry reid in charge of the senate. I got this from couple of different on line soares, yesterday and today. God help us all. God Bless America and Our Troops Past Present and Future. Keeing to My Oath Locked Loaded and Keeping My Powder Dry. Get the US Out of the UN and the UN Out of the US. Got couple up dates on UN gun grab from gun reports today but no way to comment whats going gun reports. Every Surge we've ever had has had positive results. I expect this one will too! Gaviota Ken W - I have not seen "bricks" of .22 for the prices you describe since the '90's. Lead and other metals have risen in price dramatically, and are the major reason for price increases on our ammo. I believe the firearms industry behaved very well in 2008 given the level of disparity between demand and supply at the time. Other industries, such as big oil, would have raped us- they'd have had us dishing out a "c-note" for your brick of 22! @ PVB, well put. The rise in ammo prices are not to be considered out of line. Bullshit, they are most definitely out of line along with every other damn thing that has doubled or tripled with the past 10 years or less. There is no valid excuse nor precedent for such vast increases over such a short period of time. It's nothing but simple greed by corporate parasites and the oil companies are right on top of it all. Yet no one ever has the balls to fight them. Do we ever have enough people to stick together and perform a general strike until these scum capitulate to our reasonable demands? People are far too obsessed with their daily monotony and ignore the horrid quality of life their enslaver's are causing them. Ken W - have you been to a scrap yard lately? Are you aware of the global supply and demand issues driving up the cost of metals? In 2002, copper was roughly 75 cents per pound; lead was 20 cents per pound. Right now, they are roughly $3.5 - $4/pound and $1/pound respectively, which is 500% increase in cost. Depending on how much raw materials figure into the production costs, yes you and I will see some significant increases, but what do you expect them to do? Then, you have to consider Economics 101: supply & demand. In 2008, "we" all began hoarding ammo and stepping up our firearms purchases in anticipation of the reign of King Comrade Barack. Distributors and dealers I know went through dramatic quantities of firearms and ammunition. Items that a dealer could typically get in a few days were suddenly backordered indefinitely. Manufacturers, especially in ammo, went from one shift to three, and still couldn't increase production enough to satisfy the increased demand. Do you go to gun shows? Do you remember the insane lines and ammo running out within minutes of the doors opening? Sure, many of the firearms I watch increased in price somewhat in 2008/9, most noticeably "assault weapons" when you could find them. Now, however, although prices are up, they are up modestly from the Oboneme surge. They're up everywhere else, too, and in some cases more. Yes, it sucks. Yes, we can all boycott. However, I will maintain that within the firearms industry, they have been respectable through the process. PVB: Thank you for your logical thinking amid what seems to be a growing "rant". I'm old enough to remember gas at $0.30 cts a gallon & smokes at $0.27 a pack. Almost all the mfgrs raised their prices over the last 15 to 20 years, mostly due to rising costs such as employee wages and material costs. But we in the U.S.A. can STILL buy ammo & guns. Not many countries can claim that. There's nothing logical about laying back in apathy and allowing greed to run rampant and reduce all but the 1% elite's lives to a colorless drudgery. This attitude that "it's all fine and normal" is why they all get away with it. You all might feel content with remaining willing slaves but some of us do not. Sadly we are in the vast minority and all the corporate whores rejoice in this fact. OK Ken, but that's not really the firearms industry, at least for the most part. Many of the companies are still privately owned, family businesses. If they get "rich" over the course of their lifetime, good for them, as they've probably earned it, and most of them give significant donations to the NRA and other nonprofit organizations. You can also get a concerned, knowledgeable person on the phone when you need help with a problem (unlike Comcast, Hewlett Packard, or your other favorite Fortune big boys & girls). Meanwhile, many firearms owners run to MaoMart to buy their ammo as cheaply as possible, then bitch and moan when the local gunsmith closed up shop due to falling sales. All of that profit goes to the filthy rich Waltons who have previously tried to smack-down gun owners, while shutting down local businesses of many flavors. It's definitely not a level playing field right now, but blast those responsible - not the Hodgdons, Brownells, Potterfields, Noslers, and so on. They conduct their businesses professionally and respectably. Hundreds of votes are
