Did Virginia Anti-Gun Activist Encourage Attacks on Legislators?
February 1, 2010Printer Friendly | Email |
APPOMATTOX, Va.--An Associated Press story designed to paint an anti-gun zealot as a sympathetic figure battling the NRA in Virginia inadvertently gave him the platform to issue a veiled threat against the pro-gun-rights legislature.
The story, by Associated Press writers Dena Potter and Bob Lewis, widely carried the headline, Gun bills flourish despite mass shootings. It lead with a description of mass murderer Christopher Speight, whos accused of killing eight people.
The story read, It wasn't unusual for security guard Christopher Speight to build a shooting range on his sprawling property in this rural part of Virginia. And it wasn't out of the ordinary for him to amass a small arsenal of weapons--from a 9 mm pistol to military-style assault rifles.
His daily target practice sessions, which sometimes spilled into the night, didn't concern his neighbors.
This is gun country, where firearms are a part of the culture and in the hands of those who want them.
The story then transitioned to a quixotic description of Andrew Goddard, whose son Colin was shot at Virginia Tech but survived.
It read, This year, Goddard is fighting more than 30 bills that include easing restrictions on concealed carry permits, repealing the one-gun-a-month law and expanding where guns can be taken. Goddard is also up against a powerful lobby--the National Rifle Association spent more than $900,000 last year supporting Gov. Bob McDonnell, Republicans and pro-gun Democrats.
The story continued, Goddard has been a fixture at Virginia's 200-year-old Capitol every legislative session since the April 2007 Virginia Tech shootings, telling anyone who will listen that the state needs stricter gun laws. He asks how many deaths it will take to stop the flow of gun rights bills, ticking off numbers from past mass shootings.
"A massacre in the House of Delegates," he determines.
Rest assured, if gun-rights advocates made a similar comment about how to stop gun confiscation in any legislature, they wouldnt have to wait long for a knock on the door.

I'm reasonably sure that I'm not the only one who has noticed how violent the gun-grabbers, peaceniks, 'save-the-planet,' 'social-justice,' and 'animal-rights' freakazoids are. If I might be forgiven for a little semi-pro psychoanalysis, these people have so deeply buried their unstable personality disorders into their ideology that they've lost touch with their humanity. That's why it's so easy for them to issue death threats whenever their ideology is opposed, or even challenged.
I don't even bother with them. They're never wrong, never mistaken, and because they haven't reasoned themselves into their positions, it's impossible to reason them out of their positions.
I oppose them by teaching newbies how to shoot. It really drives them crazy - I mean crazier.

Gaviota, the Liberal Doctrine states that its O.K. to use violence as long as its for the greater good of the liberal cause. Hypocrisy at its best, and they wonder why the liberal news outlets are loosing ratings.
It would be wise to remember that extreme defense of one's indefensible position is not limited to liberals only. Anyone who has reached the point where, as Gaviota says "they're never wrong, never mistaken, etc.", could be one who espouses violence as a method for achieving their goals.
I've never understood the mentality that allows you to support the environment so much that burning new developments to the ground is acceptable. Or, so pro-life that it's okay to murder an abortion doc. The ultra-extreme left and ultra-extreme right are more alike than they are different. I think it's more of a circle than a line.
P V B, the liberal position that really gets me is for one to be alright with killing a baby, however be against capital punishment.
Yeah, that one too.
"...alright with killing a baby, however be against capital punishment..."
Yeah, in the medical field we call those disconnects "psychotic breaks."

We attempt in this forum to discuss/debate logical ideas mostly relating to Second Amendment issues. However, those on the fringe "don't need no stinking" logic. When it is easier and more convenient to spread their gospel than the truth, spread the gospel. If the myth is repeated over and over enough times and over a long period of time, it will become ingrained and thus accepted as truth. It's the Big Lie Theory, regardless of the message, tell it long and hard enough and with passion, and it will be accepted by those who do not see past the surface. "Don't confuse me with facts, truth or logic, I want to believe what I want to believe because everybody knows its right." Step outside their mantra and they go off the edge. Disagree with their position and watch how fast these all loving, all embracing always politically correct folk turn into fire breathing animals. Violence, no. Its politically justified to illustrate their point for the greater good of humanity. Does global warming, freedom of choice, gun control ring any bells? These individuals are only merchants of messages. They are selling their doctrine to all that will hear. Be critical. Exercise independent thinking. Question their "facts" and watch how the conversation turns into a shouting match. Talk about zero tolerance!! Always remember, if the Second Amendment is silenced, the First Amendment is as well!! Freedom of expression cannot exist without a strong defense. Silence the Second and you silence the First.
IMO, shooting and collecting firearms are both very valid freedoms of expression, and should also be protected by the First.
If control is in a phrase, it's never about the fore & after words, it's about control. Nothing else. The ends justifies the means in the "psychotic breaks." Hmmm, could "they" pass a background check for buying a firearm?
Liberals attack our nation and constitution every singe day. They are a greater threat to our nation and freedom than ALL of our external enemies combined. We send our military over seas to defend our constitution and beliefs yet we do NOTHING at home, to address the greater and more immediate threat, caused by our own misguided citizens and politicians. I wonder why ?? I would suggest that we treat each and every one of them as home grown terrorists that are committing acts of high treason. Especially the politicians that took an oath of office to defend our constitution then turn right around and attack it with the goal of destroying it.
"I would suggest that we treat each and every one of them as home grown terrorists that are committing acts of high treason."
Acts of High Treason by elected officials are "treated" with impeachment, trial, and imprisonment as directed by the Constitution. As long as that is what you mean by treat, we are on the same page.
If you have something else in mind... well, since you read Gun Reports, I assume you are not a fool, and only fools and agents provocateur would post threats of violence on a public forum.
Just be sure that you don't go the "Progressive" route and lose touch with your humanity in the service of ideology.

A zealot is a zealot regardless of which side of the fence they are on. Zealots rarely garner the mainstream support either way. Leftist OR Conservative Right zealots end up preaching to the choir. The best way to get action is to vote out the politicians causing the most damage. I would start with Barack Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, et al AND keep my guns where they ought to be: with ME! We might even end up with the same constitution we started with over 200 years ago. Who knows?. Viva Le Scott Brown. Cheers all.
