Gun Reports - News
Texas Governor (and Republican presidential candidate) Rick Perry.
Was Perry packing?

(GunReports.com) -- From Ben Smith at Politico:
Texas Gov. Rick Perry is a leading advocate of gun rights who like to boast of having dispatched a coyote on a recent job, so I asked him during today's walking press conference at the Iowa State Fair whether he was armed today.
"I never comment on whether I'm carrying a handgun or not," he said. "That's why it's called concealed."
Read the whole story here at Politico.com.
Gov. Perry is 100% right -that's why its called "concealed." Gov. Perry is 100% right -that's why its called "concealed." Not knowing if an individual is "carrying" or not is the best deterrent conceivable! Perry should have replied: "Do you think thats a possibility?" Reporter: "Yes". Perry: "Well, then thank God for the 2nd Amendment, because even pantywaists like you benefit from the deterrence effect resulting from the uncertainty that any given citizen may be armed". Shot a coyote, what a tough guy. I don't like him already. Apparently, someone has been playig too much hookie and missed the class on predatory animals. If a coyote killed a number of your cattle and chickens, upon which you depend for your livelihood, you'd know why he shot it. In areas inhabited by humans, the can be and have been more than a nuisance. They have attacked children and domestic animals without provocation and not from hunger. They are vicious. That's why people shot them and that's why they are on bounty lists. Have at it, Gov. Lots of retiree's from other parts of the country have lost small dogs to coyotes in NM retirement communities. Do you prefer coyotes to "Fluffy"? Particularly when Fluffy is a registered minature worth many hundreds of dollars. Has that reporter ever reflected on the utter insanity of telling the BGs where to find unarmed victims? (I think Texas has some "2-legged coyotes" that need to be dispatched, too:-) Keep fluffy on a leash and he won't fall prey to predators and autos. My choice is to not shoot anything I don't intend on eating or is not threatening me. Apparently playhookie has been playing hooky from the everyday news of life. I have heard of pets on leshes attacked here in Colorado and in the Chicago area. He would also think differently if it were one of his children attacked. Dustbag I've seen many coyotes. Seen many when I had a gun in my hand too. Been surrounded by packs too. Walked into bears, moose and mountain lions. Again, if I'm not intending on eating it or defending myself from it, it walks. They are all gods' creatures. coyote is a dog maybe he has a Korean girlfriend. If Perry shot Fluffy, he would have lost at least one Voter (Maybe gained one too) Coyotes don't have owners and don't vote. I don't trust Perry. He's too pat. Playhookie - you get my respect for your last comment. I too won't kill anything I won't eat or don't need to defend myself from. Heck, I even carry bugs outside to let them go. But those are animals. They just do what God made them to do. I'm not so concerned about humans who choose to do wrong things, because we KNOW what we're doing. I know I SHOULD be more 'compassionate', but I seem to use it all up trying to save critters that people have harmed. The latest headline is that Obama's campaign is pulling for Perry because they think he is easier to beat... P V B - Yeah, that's why Bush and Cheney and Rove started in Jan. of '06 to talk up Hillary as a candidate - they WANTED her to run. But then that became a self-fulfilling prophecy and they damned got her as a POTUS. I HOPE the current administration has better sense. That trick damned near back-fired on Rove, and he's no dummy. It might just backfire on Obama. David - sounds like you are no huge fan of Perry. Honestly, he makes me a little nervous. Perhaps our Texan friends on the board will fill us in... He has my vote! As a Texan, I personally would vote for Perry over the other present candidates, and Texas has re-elected him as governor, and governors are scrutinized very closely in Texas. You will all have to watch ALL the candidates, as I have! You got me there P V B. Not only am I not impressed with Perry himself, but after the first 8 years of this century, I'm 'gun-shy' about Texas politicians. Of course, at this point I doubt the bankers will let him get the nomination either - unless they really want BO back in for another 4 years. This deal about Rick Perry shooting a coyote, while on a morning run, appears to have gotten way out of hand. Rick shot the coyote because it was attempting to attack his dog, who was with him on his run. Now, as to Perry's shot at the presidency, I'll take him any day of the year over a RINO like Mitt Romney, or any of the others in the current field of Republican challengers. All politicians have their positives and their negatives..... Its' the nature of the beast. However, as one who has had Rick Perry as my governor I'll take him with his positives and negatives as a potentially better president than what we have now, and any of those who might aspire to be elected in 2012. August 18, 2011 .....( Keep fluffy on a leash and he won't fall prey to predators and autos. My choice is to not shoot anything I don't intend on eating or is not threatening me. Comment by: playhookie | August 18, 2011 )...... In reference above Playhookie, you are not keeping current with the spread of coyotes into major cities and subdivisions in same. Leashing the pet doesn't stop coyotes. Have common incidents of attacks of pets on leash from Naples, Florida to Las Vegas, Nevada! Check newspaper reports for yourself. Between coyotes & Fireants Bobwhite Quail have just about been wiped out also. Let them be at your home see how long you have to wait before you have problems. Applaud Gov Perry for his honesty and quick action with safe weapon handling in protecting his pet & himself. Just think what news would have been if he didn't have a weapon. Democrat Coyote attacks Republican Governor with no remorse and mauls innocent pet! A lot of people were wondering where Rick Perry stood on the 2nd Amendment. Apparently Dudley Brown of NAGR was wondering as of a couple of days ago because Governor Perry did not send back his 2nd Amendment questionnaire. I guess this answers our questions. Still, Governor, send in that form or get a member of your staff to do it. It'll only take a minute. playhookie, I live on an intercoastal barrier island that is overrun by copperheads, rattlers and cottonmouths. As a matter of routine, we keep one of our pump shotguns, an old 12 gauge Winchester Model 97 full choke out of the vault and loaded with #7 1/2 birdshot. We killed a lot of vipers over the years and none of them were in the house or a direct threat at the time. We'd still be killing them if a big black snake didn't take up residence in the yard and run the surviving vipers off. There is nothing wrong with reducing the number of dangerous predators before a child or pet walks up on one. To each his own To each his own No doubts here about Rick Perry being committed to the second amendment. Gun rights and concealed carry laws have improved since he took office. He is a force to be reckoned with, just ask a coyote. I guess it is hard for non-Texans to understand straight talk and the take-it-or-leave-it attitude we have. Try it, you might like it. Check the facts for yourself, life is better in Texas. I will miss Rick Perry when we lose him as Governor. I guess if it will make this country more like Texas and less of the Omamanation created by the playhookie crowd it will be worth it. OK, reality check here. I've been sent (3x) an email about why CA is busted and TX isn't, and it's a made-up BS story about how the CA governor was running with his dog, etc, etc, and all the silly Californications that went on after the coyote bit his dog, then it's contrasted with a similar no-facts story about an unnamed TX governator shooting a coyote under the same circumstances. So, since you guys talk like Perry really did this, WHEN AND WHERE? I think you're confusing this bogus e-mail I got with fact. Please, if you think it really did happen, provide some details. When I looked on-line, all I got is a WaPo story with Perry's 'say-so' that it had happened. No witnesses. I just can't say which came first - Rick's story, or the e-mail - and clearly I'm a little bit suspicious. That story about Perry was dated April 2010. The story about Perry dispatching the coyote was carried in our local newspapers here in Central Texas. The piece with which he did the deed was a Ruger LCP. Ruger became so enamored of this that they produced the "True Texan" model of the LCP, emblazoned with a single star, and the box bore the signature of Rick Perry. canovack - yeah, I got that much from the Washington Post piece. But as they quoted no witnesses, nor was any Game Warden collection of the coyote mentioned (it COULD have been rabid to attack his dog with him there), or any such corroborative information, I'm wondering if Perry got that same e-mail before he told this story, or if there was ever a witness quoted. Supposedly he had some security staff with him - they can't be expected to call him a liar, but I didn't read where any of them were quoted supported his statement either. So I'm STILL left wondering, you know?. I'm also wondering why Sarah Palin never picked up on this and upgraded it to a wolf story... I bet she got that e-mail too. Cynic? Yeah, guess so. So, would you rather be jogging with Perry or Obama and confront a predator? Cute Robert V, but not at all to the point of did something really happen, or did Perry just like the email story and use it, is it? I wouldn't jog with either of those butt-heads. And I carry my own piece, so it doesn't matter if I jog with The Terminator himself, or with Strawberry Shortcake, I don't require protection - from anyone. (I cut this in half to avoid that Error 9 thing....) I've been hit by a speeding Edsel and came down 50 feet away. I've been stabbed at, slashed at, shot at, and pasted to a garage door by a Datsun. I've had a dozen broken bones and damaged nearly every joint in my body except my jaw hinges. I'm pretty sure I was poisoned slowly for a while, but didn't think to get tested. Been hit head on and from behind at the same time, everybody doing about 50 mph. I'm still here, so WHAT is your 'big ricky' going to do for me? Nada. Good shooting TEX. Look even though he has security he gets jumped by the pesky coyote. As to what any POL is gonna do for ya forget it and DO FOR YOURSELF. Who are you gonna support: Obama, Romney RINO, Big Mouth Bauchman, No-Gun Pawlenty, etc... Perry is an honest Christian man who believes in limited govermnent, fiscal conservatism, States rights over Federal rights, and getting out of the way and letting the people grow their small businesses. Isn't that what is missing with Obama? Who are you gonna support: Obama, Romney RINO, Big Mouth Bauchman, No-Gun Pawlenty, etc... Perry is an honest Christian man who believes in limited govermnent, fiscal conservatism, States rights over Federal rights, and getting out of the way and letting the people grow their small businesses. Isn't that what is missing with Obama? Oh please. Any "honest Christian" wouldn't have a darned thing to do with US politics as they are today. Perry's no more an honest Christian I am a Tea Party guy. Here's a test I use. What's he worth today, and what was he worth when he got that job? And how much does that job actually pay? Do the math and you'll probably find out it doesn't add up. BO, e.g. was worth 2.something mil (according to his tax statements) the year he got elected, and then worth 5.something the next tax season - after one year in the white house (according to a yahoo news story I read). The job doesn't pay THAT much. Gun or no gun, this man is up to the task. I just hope he get's a chance to go up against Obumber. DITTO ON ALL OF THE PRO GUN STATEMENTS POSTED HERE As I read through all of the posts in this thread, I am once again, reminded of how very important it is to take an active interest in party primary campaigns. We all have our opinions concerning each of the candidates, and it is right and proper that we engage in discourse as to who would ultimately be the best representative of our concerns. The one thing, however, that we must all do, is vote. Vote for whom you think will have the best shot at defeating BHO. The field is limited to Republicans, so that is where our choices must be made. Once the primaries are completed, and the Republican convention validates the results of those primaries, we must support that candidate. Nobody here, in his right mind, would think of voting for BHO again.....would you? And.....we must remember that if the field of candidates includes an independent who runs, in the November election, against BHO and the Republican nominee, a vote for the independent will all but assure BHO a second term..... I don't think any of us want that! I'm really hoping for a moderate candidate that wants a whle new Congress.2012 can't come soon enough for me.Obama is the root of all evil. hollister sale is the place to go when you are searching for hollister clothing to wear when you hang out after school or want to go to the movies or to the beach. hollister outlet is youth apparel and youll find an exceptional selection of jeans, casual pants, including cargo and tear away models, hollister uk as well as Capri pants for warmer weather.
