The group Media Matters for America hates NRA. Few organizations have more strongly proclaimed their disdain for our right to keep and bear arms and self-protection, says the NRA-ILA.

Gun News from Around the Web: Week of Feb 14-21, 2011
Concealed issues

COLLEGE STATION, TX — Last week Student Senate approved a referendum to gauge the interest from the student body on the issue of concealed carry of firearms on campus, a referendum that has sparked a debate. The group "Texas A&M Students for Concealed Carry" has been representing the opinion to support concealed carry, but not much has been done to articulate the argument against and I thought it important to do so.

Gun bill raises concerns across Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS — Legislation that would bar local units of government from restricting firearms is raising questions about how it would impact sporting events in publicly owned facilities, including the venue that is home to the 2012 Super Bowl.

Dave Henderson outdoors: Gun registration bill resurfaces in Albany

Despite the shift in power in the state legislature, it's apparently business as usual in Albany in 2011, at least in terms of anti-gun legislation. It's been noted previously that the legislation to mandate microstamping technology in semiautomatic pistols has been introduced in New York again this year. Now comes another ridiculous gun bill, S2994, which would require the mandatory registration of all firearms in the state -- for an annual fee.

House wants NH, not feds to regulate some guns

CONCORD, N.H.—The House is voting this week on legislation that would effectively bar federal regulation of some firearms, accessories and ammunition made in New Hampshire. Under the bill, state or federal officials who enforced federal regulations of the weapons would be guilty of a crime.

Churches wrestle with guns in the pews

The way Rev. Jonathan Wilkins sees it, members of his Baptist church in Thomaston, Ga., should have the right to carry guns into worship services to protect the congregation.

A victory for the gun lobby

The vote was 29-5 today on a Senate bill of little except negative relevance. It is, of course, to prove that the gun lobby can pass just about anything it wants in the Arkansas Senate no matter how damaging.

Letter: Forget gun control, we need car control

I think we can reduce the number of gun-related deaths along with auto-related deaths if we just make it illegal to own a gun or drive a car. As many shooting deaths are committed by someone that uses a car to get to the scene of the shooting.

Lubbock teen dropped from NRA lawsuit, others take his place

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Lubbock teenager who sued both the state & federal governments over gun rights will not continue the fight, but instead hand off his lawsuit to two other people who will replace him as plaintiffs. James D'Cruz says in court records that he has moved to Florida with his parents.

Why 33 rounds makes sense in a defensive weapon

There's nothing really new when it comes to guns. To the contrary, the extended magazine that Jared Loughner allegedly carried in his Glock 19 the day he is accused of having fatally shot six people outside Tucson and wounding 13 others, and that President Obama is likely to suggest banning in an upcoming speech, may be traced way back.

Judge says driver with unloaded, encased gun under seat can't be charged with carrying a concealed weapon

In the ongoing evolution of Wisconsin gun law, a Milwaukee County judge has ruled the state’s concealed carry statute unconstitutional as applied to a man who had an unloaded, encased gun under his car seat three days after he had been robbed at gunpoint in the same area of the city.

Rep. Denny Rehberg Letter Gets Results: Administration Rejects Gun Control Measure

Montana Congressman Denny Rehberg today released the following statement after The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) formally delayed a request by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to implement new gun control regulations through “emergency” rulemaking procedures. ATF had originally asked OMB to approve the decision by January 5, 2011, long before the end of the traditional 60-day public comment period.

NRA CEO Says Government Gun Policies Are ‘Getting Us Killed’

The head of the National Rifle Association (NRA) slammed President Barack Obama's administration and other gun control advocates during his speech at the Conservative Political Conference on Feb. 10.

Second Amendment Remedies

[T]he modern debate on the Second Amendment has disregarded a crucial element of constitutional analysis: what the amendment is for. The Bill of Rights does not simply create rights arbitrarily. Instead, they are understood to serve a particular purpose in keeping American society free and democratic. For example, the First Amendment is understood to protect political speech in particular; this consideration shapes how we think of the amendment in general and how the courts apply it.

Rep. Sponsors Legislation to Allow Import of Legal M1 Semi-Automatic Rifles

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Montana’s Congressman, Denny Rehberg, sponsored legislation to compel the State Department to allow the importation of 857,470 lawful M1 semi-automatic rifles into the United States. The rifles were relics from the Korean War, which are being sold by South Korea in an effort to raise money for its military. These rifles would be made available to the public as well as to museums and historical societies.
