Kevin Winkle of GunReports.com reports from SHOT Show 2011 in Las Vegas on the S&W MP22 handgun. This pistol is a joint project between Smith & Wesson and Walther, and is made in Germany. The gun has the same dimensions as a standard M&P centerfire gun, but has an internal hammer-fired action. Target market: Training for LE, and as a consumer plinker. Retail: $379.
Small arms instructor and AMU reserve shooting team member SFC Chris Hansen discusses trigger control and how to improve it. He says that shooters tend to get hard on the trigger, or jerk it. The drill he discusses will improve trigger control without having to shoot the rifle.
For new and inexperienced shooters, a trip to an indoor shooting range can be intimidating because no one wants to run afoul of range safety rules or showing courtesy to fellow target shooters. The National Shooting Sports Foundation, trade association for the firearms and ammunition industry, advises those target shooters to relax and watch its new video, "Introduction to Range Safety and Etiquette." All shooters will better understand what's expected of them at indoor ranges after viewing the video and, as a result, will be more comfortable the next time they head to their favorite shooting facility. "Introduction to Range Safety and Etiquette" can be viewed on NSSF's You Tube channel. The eight-and-a-half-minute video covers the following: Rules of gun safety, Eye and ear protection, Range rules, Role of the range officer, What to do when you get to the firing line, Making your handgun safe, Cease firewho can call it, what it means and how you should respond, Range courtesy, common sense and etiquette. The video is hosted by Barry Laws, a member of NSSF's Association of Shooting Ranges Advisory Committee. He and his wife, Cynthia, own Open Range, the Crestwood, Ky.-indoor shooting facility where the video was filmed.
