Custom Lever Guns on a Budget

THINKING IT WOULD BE fun to get involved in Cowboy Action Shooting, and maybe do a little hunting with lever guns, I started on a quest for the appropriate hardware. For me, the commonly available calibers were too boring.

Disassembly/Reassembly of the Remington Model 5 Rimfire Rifle

The first Remington Number 5 bears no resemblance to the new Remington Model 5. The two rifles differ as much as cats and dogs do. The old Number 5 was a rolling-block sporting and target rifle adapted to use smokeless powder ammunition. It was introduced in 1898, initially chambered for .30-30 Winchester, 7mm Mauser, .30-40 Krag, with .303 British added a few years later. The rifle flopped. Only 198 were sold before it went out of production in 1903. That was too bad for Remington but a good deal for anyone who owns a Number 5, as it would be a mighty nice collector’s piece today. I don’t think the new Remington Model 5 will suffer the same fate as the old Number 5. Right now, it’s a clip-fed bolt-action available in .22 LR and .22 WMR. I have few doubts that in the future it will be able to handle one or more of the .17-caliber rounds gaining popularity. While it wears “Remington” on its box and at the rear of the receiver, you’ll find “Zastava-Serbia” above and forward of the magazine housing. Zastava is the town; Serbia a former kingdom of the Balkans and presently part of Yugoslavia.

AG Nominee Holder Represented D.C. in Heller Case

The Second Amendment Foundation believes that the nomination of Eric Holder for the post of attorney general of the United States sends an “alarming signal” to gun owners about how the Barack Obama administration will view individual gun rights.

CCRKBA Warns New Jersey Gun Owners About A2116

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- The New Jersey Assembly is poised to vote on a new gun control measure that could criminalize ownership of the very guns that secured this nation's independence, and outlaw possession of expensive safari-class hunting rifles, according to the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA).

Firearms and the 2008 Democratic Party’s Draft Platform

August 13, 2008

Printer Friendly | Email |

The 2008 Democratic Party’s draft platform confirms that the party still “doesn’t get it” about Second Amendment gun rights versus the Utopian fantasy that gun control laws will somehow make neighborhoods safer, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms has said.

“While promising to preserve our Second Amendment rights,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “the party platform demonizes semiautomatic sport utility rifles and wants them banned, calls for anti-gun show legislation and proposes so-called ‘common-sense’ gun laws.”

The platform draft reads: “We recognize that the right to bear arms is an important part of the American tradition, and we will preserve Americans’ continued Second Amendment right to own and use firearms.

We believe that the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation, but we know that what works in Chicago may not work in Cheyenne.

We can work together to enact and enforce common-sense laws and improvements, like closing the gun show loophole, improving our background check system and reinstating the assault weapons ban, so that guns do not fall into the hands of terrorists or criminals.

Acting responsibly and with respect for differing views on this issue, we can both protect the constitutional right to bear arms and keep our communities and our children safe.

Does the Brady Bunch still think that "terrorists and criminals" buy their guns at the local gun shop, submit to the background check, wait for ??? days then pick up their gun? Are they so blinded by the desire to ban all guns that they do not know that the bad guys are in full support of their efforts? If the gun haters succeed, the bad guys job is just that much easier. Disarm the people and we can ALL become victims!! Instead, how about a proposal that ALL citizens be mandated to own a gun and receive professional training on its use. Put that in the Democratic Party Platform and I'll vote Democratic. Fat chance!!

The Brady Bunch's objective is not to reduce crime. There has been enough satistics to show that the theory of disarming law abiding citizens will reduce crime does not work (example D.C.). The Brady Bunch wants to disarm society for absolute power, which at that point will be undisputed among the masses. An unarmed society will not be able to rise up against tyranny. The Brady Bunch is using Hitler's playbook, however most of the masses are too ignorant to see this. They will keep voting Democratic because most have been brain washed due to belonging to a particular race, union people, gays, etc... They appeal to the special interest groups that are not apart of mainstream society. I'm preaching to the choir? Get the word out!

Don't suspect the Democratic plank on abortion has changed...and I don't suspect there's a man, or a woman, that will call them on the paradox. Keeping "our communities and our children safe" sounds peachy, but I am waiting for our liberated women to ask the Democratic party why it believes, by and large, that she shouldn't be able to keep and bear arms to protect the same body that gives birth to life, given the party's proclivity for shouting a woman should have the "right to choose" to end the life that is growing inside the same body.

Has anyone not read about the horror stories from D.C. involving the women who were raped and murdered in their apartment? I believe they even called the police, or 911, to no avail. They're dead.

Don't believe I'll live to see the day when fashionable ideology includes a docker's clutch on the catwalk.

One more time the Democrats show their arrogance and disdain for the Constitution. If they had their way we would have a socialist state with "Big Brother" controlling every aspect of our lives. What does not surprise is their concept of common sense gun control. One can only guess that they want more illegal/black market trafficing in firearms. They also want more power to protect themseselves from the very people they claim to serve. When will government be by and for the people, and not the other way around?

WHY I'VE DECIDED TO VOTE DEMOCRATIC: I've totally lost all semblance of any intelligence I've ever had, or I'm evil and want to cause as much trouble as I possibly can.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.

I'm voting Democrat because freedom of speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.

I'm voting Democrat because when we pull out of Iraq I trust that the bad guys will stop what they're doing because they now think we're good people

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that people who can't tell us if it will rain on Friday CAN tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don't start driving a Prius.

I'm voting Democrat because I'm not concerned about the slaughter of millions of babies so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed To make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest Away to the government for redistribution as THEY see fit.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe three or four pointy headed elitist liberals need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would NEVER get their agendas past the voters.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that when the terrorists don't have to hide from us over there, they'll come over here, and I don't want to have any guns in the house to shoot them with.

I'm voting Democrat because I love the fact that I can now marry whatever I want. I've decided to marry my horse.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't

* * * * *

Makes you wonder why anyone would EVER vote Republican, now doesn't it?

Can't we all see it's a game? The D's play Bad Cop and their drinking buddies, the R's, play Good Cop, each of them collecting CAMPAIGN DONATIONS from their respective supporters. It's this way on gun laws, military spending, farm welfare, and everything else. The politicians have honed this extortion racket to a fine art, and they play American citizens like fiddles. Anyone who expects the R's to reverse the trend toward dictatorship must be comatose. The D's and the R's are each wings of a single BIRD OF PREY...and we're the prey. Google the website for William Grigg and read some of his work. That, and surf to www.lewrockwell.com for some good insight. I don't have any solutions...there are none. We're in this fix because Americans have lost all sense of morality, believing that FORCE (government force) can make a better world. This is the same belief that the National Socialists (Nazis) and International Socialists (communists) had...and Americans have adopted it hook, line, and sinker. The future isn't going to be pretty for Americans.

Surprise! Golly gee, so what else is new in no-brainier land. The Democrats and their candidate care about one thing, and one thing only absolute power over us all. The Constitution was designed to prevent this, but the sheple will allow it. I seriously wonder how people can be so STUPID, or NIEVE to believe that the police or government can protect them. The only thing Obama and friends to is aid criminals, disarm the lawful citizens, and give them a wonderful stage for a tyrant to take over the country. Oh, sorry folks, they do not believe that can happen in their utopia. Can they?
