Gun Tests Magazine Ammunition Testing Protocol

GunReports.com publishes the detailed ammo-testing protocol from Gun Tests magazine, the most commonly requested addition to Gun Tests coverage. Gun Tests' focus is on performance before the bullet hits the target. 'We realize that results from our test gun can’t be extrapolated to every possible gun readers might own, we wanted to test ammunition in a fashion most consumers would be able to duplicate, and in fact, should conduct on their own. But our framework can potentially save you money and time by narrowing the list of candidates you might try in your own gun, and you can also follow our system to see if a given round performs for you like it did for us.

Will Harvard Online Library of Firearms Research Tilt Anti-Gun?

(GunReports.com)--A new firearms research database launched by the Harvard School of Public Health purports to make scholarly articles more accessible to reporters, law enforcement, public health officials, policymakers, and the general public. But gun owners are right to worry that the database will not be even-handed in reporting both sides of gun ownership.

Do Gun Rights Protect Against Tyranny?

(GunReports.com)--Warren Richey, staff writer for the Christian Science Monitor, authored a piece this week that began, 'The U.S. Supreme Court is considering what could be a landmark decision on individual gun rights. Ruger GP-100 .357 Magnum, $474

From the 01-01-1999 Issue of Gun Tests

Classification:Handguns
Category:Revolvers
Model Name:GP-100
Manufacturer:Ruger
Model Number:.357 Magnum

FULL GUN REPORT

The Ruger GP100’s grips were black rubber without grooves, but the sides had decorative inserts of brown wood-like material (which some actually found attractive) that give the gun a distinctive look. The grips felt just great in both aimed single-action fire and in rapid-fire double action. Recoil was spread over a large area of the hand and that made for good shooting comfort, even with the heaviest loads. The controls all functioned well and positively, and we found this to be a pleasant gun to handle and shoot. The trigger was well curved and smooth, and the double-action cycling was just slightly heavier than that of the Smith & Wesson. Trigger movement was even and smooth enough to permit good accuracy when shooting it slowly in the double-action mode.

The .40 S&W is the leading round chosen by today’s local and federal law-enforcement professionals. Compact .40s (3.5- to 4.25-inch barrels) bridge the gap between plainclothes duty and civilian concealed carry, and of these, the lightweight “plastic” pistols lead the way. And the Glock line of pistols is perhaps synonymous with the word “polymer.” In this report we take a look at the latest .40-caliber compact model from Glock, the GL23.

Many of the advantages of a tactical shotgun are the same as that self-defense shotgun you might have propped in the corner of your bedroom: devastating firepower, mechanical reliability, ease of use. But your bedroom shotgun and working tactical shotguns do have differences: beefy tactical guns are ready to go on the offensive to serve warrants, root out armed bad guys, and break stuff with either lead or steel.
